ive been doing spin class twice a week for a few months, and really enjoy the class.  i'd do it on my cardio days for fat burning.  but now that im focused on tri, is it a valualbe class, or am i better off on my real bike?

this.

Short version, on YOUR bike is best, but if it will get you training more, do it.

I've been a recreational cyclist for 6 years (training for 1st tri now). I've ridden outside a few winters. Last year I started doing mostly spin (3-4 per week) to avoid the ice and 4 layers of clothes. On my first group ride late March I had no problem keeping up and taking my turn leading on a 50 miler ~18.5mph (2,000'  gain). Yes road bike and some pace lining!

I wouldn't call it conclusive but it worked for me.

Another question;

Which is better spin or trainer?

Just clicked the link posted earlier and found another link for a short article by Chris Carmichael
