Subject: Ordering a bike from overseas
Has anyone had experience ordering a bike from overseas? Specifically Asia?

After finding some "way to good to be true" prices on a few bikes I am targeting, I am tempted, yet a bit skepitcal on an Indonesian bike company called SariYanto.com. The include the manufacturer warranty and they ship to my door. Plus they responded promptly and answered all my questions to a recent email.

Any feedback? Thank you

That site is sketchy, and they are selling bikes that you CANNOT buy online. (Felt immediately comes to mind)

If you buy from the Asian market on ebay, you might have a chance to get some help if your package never arrives... just off some website... good luck.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is. Use extreme caution.

Purchased a bike from the UK from a reputable dealer.  It was a good deal and no problem.  I did have to pay a fee on my credit card because the item was sold in Pounds.  Found a big difference between credit cards and I think the Discover was the least.  You should look into it if not in dollars.  Was not charged customs.

I purchased some wheels from Asia in the group buy over on ST.  Big issue is how long they have taken to come.  Purchased around September and still have not received.  Several delays.  It was finally shipped, I was told, January 5th but told it can take 8 weeks to arrive.  Which I thought was rather unusual.  Others on the forum had their shipment sent early December just received theirs in the last week.

I purchased a pair of Look pedals off ebay a few years ago. They were from a company out of Thailand. The thing with ebay is you can see feedback about the company, the percentage of satisfied customers, etc. Also, if you pay by paypal, in many situations they guarantee your purchase so if it doesnt show up paypal will reimburse you the full amount. Otherwise, no way I would purchase a bike from overseas!

I replied to your other thread on this, but basically, I'm here in Indonesia and will check it out. PM me if you don't hear back from me one way or another in a couple of days.

There is a lot of talk about the generic frames coming out of China over on ST. It sounds like a few people have ordered them. They are also on ebay as well. Leeg00crap would know for sure, but I think the Planet-X frames are priced fairly close and you would be dealing with someone on the same continent.

I have ordered from Switzerland, but had recommendations about the dealer. I had a great experience and the backing that I could dispute the charges on my credit card if something wasn't right. No problems.

Its a scam. There was a thread on ST about a similarly designed website. You can't by Felt bikes online.
