Won't be able to make the bike but I will try to be there for the swim.   Can't promise as I am taking a family member to Jenny Craig.

I'll plan to be there on Saturday as well.  Gonna try and make both the bike and the swim, but I will definitely be there for the swim.  I'm going all the way across this time Cool

Hi Everyone,
RE: SATURDAY Looks like I am going to be late for the bike so I will just do part of it and meet you all back at the water for the 11am ice bath.

Water temp was about 62 today.  A bit chilly for your face, feet and hands, but bearable.  A few more degrees would be perfect.

We just got an email from the RD saying we aren't supposed to swim there prior to the season opener. Not that they have any way of knowing if youre in that race or not, but better safe than sorry I guess. We're going up to Walden tomorrow instead.

Can you please post here if you find that swimming is allowed at Walden Pond. Walden and Hopkinton are both opperated by DCR under the same rules. I would like to know why I should have to travel to Concord when Hopkinton is in my backyard.

The ranger in the white truck were telling folks they couldn't swim today while we were there. He said you can only swim next week.

It's all MAV's fault.

Walden is the place to go. Swam there today and last week.  Others were too.  No ban on swimming that I know of.

I'd like some clean drinking water please....DCR should be concerned with MUCH BIGGER issues than a couple triathletes trying to get in some training swims...

I hate bureaucracy

If it's fine to swim at Walden, it's fine to swim at Hopkinton. We pay the same taxes and I expect the same deal as the folks around Walden. It's not that hard to understand.

Ugh...just realizing...my registration must have not gone through!!! I thought I signed up back in March...but I can't find any charges on my bank card and now registration emails. After talking with some friends who had said they've been receiving emails from Max Performance I started doing some digging...UGH!!! What a kick in the pants!!!

Swam at Walden today. It's cold, but everything other than fingers and toes were fine in the wetsuit. Didnt stay in long, probably 20 minutes. didnt try for race pace, just wanted to see how cold it was. Probably about as warm as the ocean swim in September last year for Fantastic Nantasket beach.

Did you get threatened with a ticket at Walden? According to DCR, swimming is not allowed.

Anyone have an idea of the fee involved with such a ticket?

Not only did I not get threatened, when we got there, the rangers were standing RIGHT by the water talking to some folks about why the pond path is closed (flooding). They were telling folks that swimming is at your own risk. While this was going on, there were lots of kids and parents were playing in the shallows, a couple brave souls were swimming in swimsuits a little ways out and a guy was doing a training swim in the middle of the lake.

We got our suits on while they were standing there, and when one of the rangers got done talking, they just walked up the path.

I swam at Hopkinton with two friends on Saturday morning. One of the RDs was actually there and was giving my friend some advice on how to avoid panicking in the swim, etc. He didn't mention that we weren't supposed to be swimming there at all. Maybe we were in the water earlier enough, that we avoided the park rangers and it was before they could complain to the RD?  Water was really nice - little chilly for my feet but once I got in and got swimming - got really comfortable. First time using a wetsuit and I was really surprised at how well it worked in keeping me warm! I ended up doing 4 laps - from shore to shore - once with my friend and once with his wife, about a mile in total. I was helping them out with swim technique as they are both new to swimming. Unfortunately for me - doesnt look like I will get to race next weekend. My payment info never got transmitted to them back in March when I was registering...so I missed out. Now I am struggling to find another in May to do!

I  swam at Walden yesterday evening (6:15ish) and had no problem.  There were LOTS of people in the shallow area swimming and playing.  Also there were a couple others doing training swims as well as some kayakers out in the middle of the lake.  As I was putting on my suit, a park employee drove right by me on one of their little john deere vehicles and kept on going.  No issues.  Not sure if there were any signs posted or anything...i didn't even bother to look because there were so many people in the water.

Race is Sunday!!!

Weather will be sunny but chilly...real feel of 45-47 at race time. What are all you going to wear after your wetsuit in the swim?

I've done an Oly when it was 50 and raining...put on a jacket in T1 and my feet were numb long into the run. I'm thinking tight fitting cycling jacket or wind vest and probably need to put on socks as well.

Are we going to meet up anywhere?

In in the white cap wave.

So pumped for the race on Sunday!!!!

I'd planning to just rock my tri suit for the race.  It may be a little chilly with just a tri suit, but I'm planning to be going pretty much all out the whole time so I don't think its going to be a problem.

Looks like we should expect some pretty heavy winds on Sunday.

Really looking forward to racing and seeing everyone.

Have you been swimming in Hopkinton with just a tri suit this season?  It's supposed to be in the low 60s.

I wouldn't swim w/o a wetsuit..even have neoprene swim cap. Folks will be shivering coming out of the water. Racing when it's cold, windy and wet is unpleasant so adding some layers on in T1 is my plan.

I swam last week and bumped into my old swim coach who finished swimming just before I went in and he had brought a thermometer and shared it was 61 or 62.
