Subject: RE: Anyone doing the Tour of the Battenkill? I raced it the last two years, but am not going this year, mostly because of the cost, but it's a cool course for sure. Drive the course the night before and take note of the dirt sections and the hills. In general, you want to be on or near the front of the pack going in to all the dirt sections. Most fields break up at Juniper Swamp when they hit the dirt wall (18% grade on loose dirt ) that occurs fairly early in the course, so it is especially important to be up front coming in to the dirt road before it if you want to be in that first selection. Most people use normal wheels and tires. Very few people use carbon race wheels. Some people go with a slightly wider tire. It's a long race and flats are common because of the road conditions. Don't count on the neutral support. Bring a tube. |
