Overcast
Total Time = 1h 40m 19s
Overall Rank = 122/989
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 19/78
Pre-race routine:

Same as always. Banana and coffee with gel 10 min before start. We found a spot behind a building that blocked the wind to stay "warm" and stretch a bit.
Event warmup:

None, unless shivering counts!
Run
  • 1h 40m 19s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Cold race for us Floridians, Northerners loved it though! 7-9am, 48F-51F, NNW 13 Overcast then sun.

Mi 1 7:32, HR Avg 141, (With headwind used some drafting)
Mi 2 7:42, 155,
Mi 3 7:41, 158,
Mi 4 7:36, 163 (finally started to get warm),
Mi 5 7:42, 164 (Took off the head band before bridge 1),
Mi 6 7:11, 167 (Bridge 1 climb and decent with cross tailwind),
Mi 7 8:07, 164 (lost focus for a bit),
Mi 8 7:30, 169, (with tailwind)
Mi 9 7:39, 169,
Mi 10 7:45, 169 (felt the wall creeping up on me),
Mi 11 7:41, 171, (dug deeper, turn onto Causeway and start of the cross headwind)
Mi 12 7:49, 176 (Bridge 2 climb and decent),
Mi 13.1 8:22, 177.
What would you do differently?:

Let up too much after the first bridge, pay attention to self not others.
Post race
Warm down:

None. Got pictures taken, downed a bottle of water, found a banana, cliff bar and slice of orange and waited for my wife & friends to come in. Put on some warm cloths as I was getting cold quick.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

3 weeks lost in Dec to calf injury.

Event comments:

Will be back next year! My friends from NY really liked the race and one PR in the marathon.

Wow! GREAT time/pace for your race! Congratulations.

This is my target marathon race; I am spending this year preparing to do this race next January. Is the course more or less the same each year, do you know?

Thanks Renee!
From what I was told the course was the same a last year.  Should be since its been the Masters Half championship each year.  Our friends from NY came down for it this year and they really like the course, one of them PR'd for the Marathon and said they'll be back next year for it.

Great job on the race! Those cold pre-race mornings are always brutal. Summer races are so much better!
