The Chuckanut 50K runs on this part of the trail. Also a great training run area, dogs get to go off leash and there is a stream off to the left of the trail. Actually see ButterRocketDog on the trail. |

So is Chuckanut a play on words or does it mean something? he Chuckanut Mountains (from "Chuckanut", a native word for "Long beach far from a narrow entrance"[1]), or Chuckanuts, are located on the northern Washington state coast of Puget Sound, just south of Bellingham, Washington. Being a part of the Cascade Range, they are the only place where the Cascades come west down to meet the sea. The Chuckanuts are considered to be a part of the Puget Lowland Forest Ecoregion. It's a nifty little mountain range. Parts of the trail get really soupy (think of 100 yards of ankle deep chocolate pudding). Sold out in 5 hours with about 350 competitors.
