Really, people buy this stuff?

You had better get one heck of a raise if your employer's premiums go down by 3000%.  So the insurance companies are going to PAY employers?

Come on...stop making up stuff...

Ah, the joys of the unilaterally beloved rhetorical flourish of "as much as."

Couldn't it be possible that an employer's premium may go down 3000% if they laid off 97% of their workforce?  If so, I would certainly hope the remaining 3% are getting a raise for all of the extra work they have to do.

The best part of that video is the blonde lady right behind Obama saying "That's not gonna happen" right after he makes the ridiculous statement.

Nope.  Even if they went down from $1,000,000 to $1 that still is not a 100% reduction.

I suspect he meant to say $3000.

But an epic screw-up, no doubt about it.

Yes, predicting a 3000% reduction is not even wrong...

I think he meant increase 3000%. Which in Obamanomics mean we small business people will apparently have some money left over for employees to demand raises.

here are the prepared remarks released in advance of the speech shown in the youtube clip.

http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/03/obama-the-american...

from the prepared remarks:

"Finally, my proposal would bring down the cost of health care for families, businesses, and the federal government. Americans buying comparable coverage to what they have today in the individual market would see premiums fall by 14 to 20 percent. For Americans who get their insurance through the workplace, costs could fall by as much as $3,000 a person."

so yeah. seems like he said "percent" rather than "dollars."

Thanks for digging that up, Jim.  Still, he couldn't have picked a worse spot to misspeak.  This is perfect ammo for the opposition.

Indeed he did misspeak.  However the $3000 is about as believable as the 3000%.

Even if he did - they don't count that they will TAX your healthcare benefits.

If your employer is picking up $15,000 of your benefits and you are at the 20% tax rate you will be taxed an additional $3000 - where is your savings.

Since they are still afraid to show us everything in the plan we will never know.
