I had an MRI and it shows that I've got fraying on the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. I haven't been able to run for 6 months - only bike and swim.  And I can only swim with a pull buoy.  I've been doing 2k swimming/day and easy spinning.  Getting physio 3x per week - ultrasound, laser, tens and graston technique but little improvement.  Does anyone know if surgery would help? GP says no and due to my age (55), says I should give up tri's and take up golf!  She says I've got an oversuse degenerative issue.  Thanks.

Get it clipped. A degenerative fraying isn't going to heal. You can't repair it. Just get it trimmed and cleaned up.

ps...At 55, you're awfully young to hang it up...can you get a 2nd opinion?

Thanks Rocker.  I'm going to pursue surgery.  I've been running since I was 14 and I'm not ready to retire.  In Canada, due to free healthcare, it takes a long time to get things done.  I waited 3 months for an MRI.  Now I've got to wait 3 months to see the OT and then probably another 3 months for surgery!  I guess I won't be doing any tri's in 2010.  Only swimming and a bit of biking.  Cheers!

I am 42 this year and had medial meniscus tear and fraying....had a repair and the rest cleaned up.  Its worth it. Don't quit.  I am 10 Post op and making a comeback.

Hello

Read the knee surgery thread to read my story.  I will  be 51 on Saturday and Wednesay I will  be 10 weeks post OP.  Yes get the surgery, rehab and then make a come back.

Tell your DR  that you need a life and sitting on the couch is not an option.  Better yet get a new DR.

How about an update on how this turned out? I currently have the same thing and am going to get a blood platelet injection in it tomorrow. This sitting around waiting for this to heal is for the birds.
