Have you tried E-Bay? I would think there would be something on there.

Have you asked at the LBS's around you if they've taken any off of new customer bikes that they may want to get rid of at a discount?

165? How small are you? I know that there are two opposing lines of thought about crank length, but 165 is outside pretty much every discussion I've read or been in. Do tell....

Here is my line of thought (and as of right now still have now not found one).

I'm 5'7'' on a good day, i ride with a fairly decent amount of drop for my height comfortably.
I tried a bit lower bar position with a crazy drop stem, but i hated the way it handled, that coupled with a fairly tight hip angle prompted giving this a shot.

That would get my seat up a bit higher in relation to my bars, open things up a bit, and from everything i have heard there is really no loss of power with shorter cranks (within reason).

I actually have a very similar problem and was just thinking about some shorter crank arms today as well.

for me i have found about dead on to 1cm of setback works best, and with roughly 16cm of drop last year the hip angle started getting a bit of a pain near the end of longer races.

It never hurts to ask. Maybe they have one that's a year or 2 old that they can't get rid of and they just want off their hands even at a loss.

Also just found out echappe (wheel company i race for) is also a shimano dealer, so going to check and see if they have anything.

I'm not a bike expert but it sucks that it's so hard to find what you want. You would think it shouldn't be that hard.

I ordered SRAM red and it is what I used on my Felt DA. (love'em)

Using shorter cranks allows you to ride in an agressive aero position more comfortable because your hip is more open and you are not restricted at the top of your pedal stroke. I am 5' 7" as well and using the different calculations 165mm was the suggested size for me. I've used those on the tri bike and the difference is noticeable in comfort and ability to sustain power when aero. The only difference is that cadence increased a bit but you can offset this with proper gearing selection.

Newbz

I got a set of brand new FSA SLK's (compact) from wheelandsprocket.com for just under $200.
The compact work great for me because going from a 175 to a 165 but using a compact so a 50 on the front kept the gear ratio about the same as using 175's with a 54 on the front.

I use FSA's (SL-K Light 52/38) on my road bike.  Smooth bearings and zero issues with crank arm ever falling off, as some others have reported.  I'm real happy with their products to the point where I also have FSA bars, bar tape, stem, brakes, you get the picture.  As for your search for 165's.  They can be had on e-bay or even Amazon.  I'm looking for a specific set myself in 165's myself and will be a matter of time before I come accross them.  Happy hunting.  They're out there.

I bought one on ebay, and one at a bike swap. And yes, they were hard to find.

They're definitely difficult to find, but the most common I've seen is actually Bontrager (which I suspect is because Trek spec's Bontrager 165mm's on many of the WSD models, even the larger frame sizes, which I think it a bit crazy, but that's just my opinion).

You will need to change saddle position and saddle height when you go from 170mm to 165mm. As long as you can compensate with higher cadence and stay fresher longer to maintain the same average power, then there's no reason not to get the 165's if you think that will help you in achieving a better position on the bike. Personally, I tried 165's and couldn't get comfortable with them (the leg movement just felt unnatural), whereas 170mm offers me the best fit.

Correction to my previous post.  I have the FSA K-force Light cranks.

I dont think 170 is enough of a change to do much, but i might end up in the middle and get 167.5s as i've seen a few of those pop up used this week.
