Pre-race routine:

Ate some oatmeal and orange juice for breakfast, let the dogs out and loaded up the bike to head to Clermont. Arrived at 6:00 and went down to pick up my packet, went back to the car and placed the numbers on everything, pumped up the tires and went to transition. Set up transition and had a cliff bar and mix 1. And wondered around for a little bit looking for friends. Finally ran into some friends and went back to trans to put on my wetsuit and feel the water.
Event warmup:

Wanted to get my body used to the cold water so waded in up to my chest and dipped my head in. It was chilly and I am glad that I got my face wet because it took my breath away. Went back to shore and talked with some people until it was my time race, the oly went before us so we had a good half hour before the race to kill.
Swim
  • 15m 4s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pretty happy with the swim found my pace and went with it, would have been nice to draft someone.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 02m 29s
Comments:

Good thing for strippers, Had problems getting my top off. It was a really long run to trans from the water. It didn't seem like it took 2:29 but I'll take it, I could have been faster.
What would you do differently?:

run faster from the water, be able to strip the wetsuit top off on the run.
Bike
  • 40m 21s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 20.33 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride, I need to get in better shape but this was just a primer for my bigger races to come.
What would you do differently?:

More work on the hills
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

This was a long run to transition. I felt pretty good about the time it took.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster, but not really.
Run
  • 25m 32s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

I could have run better, but much of my running has been distance running with out speed work outs. I wimped out and had to walk 2 or 3 times one right after the 1.5 mile mark, felt like I was going to puke. I finished strong and feel pretty good about the second half.
What would you do differently?:

Gut it out.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and stretched drank some water and waited for friends to finish the Olympic race going on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Needing to be in better shape, I didn't plan on this race, it was a last minute decision, so I didn't taper at all.

Event comments:

This was a good race and well attended, I would definitely recommend it to people but train on some hills first, they will whoop ya.
