Maybe we're all rats.  Pretty interesting that rats would rather starve than switch to healthful foods, and they even endure electrical shocks to get at the junk food.  So, how much voltage do you need to put on the pantry before you finally give up the potato chips?

No voltage needed.  Just a picture of what I looked like six years and 75 lbs ago...that's enough of a "shock"...

I just don't buy 'em.  If they are in the pantry, they get eaten and I don't think electrical shocks would be enough to stop me!

X2

It's no challenge for me to not buy the stuff myself, the challenge is keeping the Growler (wife) from buying it and bringing it home. Having a 5 year old daughter and all the candy that kids seem to mysteriously acquire doesn't help either.

The way I've done it over the years is to avoid having just one, because one always turns into another and another and another....

My kitchen is full of candy and junk food. I don't eat it and I dont care, because is all mental.

Food just doesn't have that effect on my any more. When I open the refrigerator and just thinking about calories, macros, and fuel for my body.

I know is hard but...

I usually don't buy the stuff myself but when my roomie does I can't help myself.  I told him to lock the cookies up in his car the next time he buys them...and hide the keys!

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

It's only a matter of trading short term pleasures for longer term ones. I'm ready to give my jeans to goodwill that I was wearing just 6 weeks ago. I look like a clown in them now.

I have almost no say in what comes into our house foodwise. My mom is always bringing home fast food, cake, potato chips, and other assorted junk. I try to get as much of my own healthy food as possible, but it doesn't change the fact that the Thin Mints and Cadbury eggs are still staring me in the face.

I lost 30 lbs on my own, but it seems like that willpower has just disappeared. I'm not sure where it went, but I wish it would wander back.

I love being young and being able to eat anything I want as long as I train enough....

Give me 5 years and this will be a different story of course

Its a battle every time I go grocery shopping..... NOoooo not a battle with my kiddo over what to buy and put in the house...a battle between my tastebuds and brain. I swear, ice cream calls my name!!!

I am thankful that my weak season is departing.  When I'm up skiing and stuck in the car, sometimes for hours upon hours upon hours the junk food beckons at the few places to stop along the way none of which have very good options.  I don't tend to buy junk for my house all that much and as spring and summer approach I feel like eating it less and less.   This weekend I put on a size pant that I haven't worn since high school and that's an awesome reminder to think about what I'm eating and why.   Then go grab a clementine or a piece of gum.  I'd love to race my first half marathon at a size I was in junior high school but that's up to me.

I have real trouble saying no to junk food.

x2.  I am now in my second week of no sweets / no fried foods / no exceptions.  I tried moderation but I am not a moderate person in that way.  So, it's all or nothing.  We'll see how quickly the 10 lbs. accumulated since I "became an adult" (long hours, kids) comes back off.

There is no way I can completely kick the habit so I try to curb my junk food to "less-junkier" food.

Instead of chips and pretzels, I opt for reduced fat Wheat Thins and laughing cow cheese and PB on top.  Maybe some 40 calorie fudgecicles instead of the 100 calorie chocolate ice cream bars.

Now if you put volts on my beer...well just call me electricuted then!

Something I find helpful is to let myself eat a small portion of chocolate once a day (at the most) to curb a sweet tooth. Usually it's either some Silk chocolate soy milk, or a square of dark chocolate. Both are better options than a candy bar, and some would argue even good for you in moderation.

Chewing gum also helps me sometimes.

+1 on the small portions.  We have little little desert dishes (from europe) and the hold about 5 spoons of ice cream.  Not enough to pack it on, but enough to get rid of the craving.

My problem doesn't lay with my sweet tooth -- its my fat tooth that kills me.

I love Natural Peanut Butter but leave the jar at the office so I limit myself to one tablespoon a day.  I don't have ANY junk food at home.  I didn't bust my butt to lose 22 pounds last year to gain it back by eating Cheetoes.

For me, it's all or nothing.  One taste of something on my 'forbidden list' and it's all over.  I admit to having a food addiction.

I'm on day two of my new strict eating plan and I am so NOT looking forward to tomorrow.  Day 3 is when the addiction kicks in and the cravings are relentless!  Luckily, I know from experience that if I hold out through day 4 , it'll get much easier.

How many times do I have to go through this?  Ugh. Sealed

How in the world do you stop at just one?  Man, eating one bit of something like that almost certainly will cause me to go back for one more, and another, until the whole thing is gone.

I guess it's that I don't absolutely love dark chocolate, but I like it just enough that it curbs my sweet tooth. They are individually wrapped, so that helps too

I can *not* employ this method with something like... pizza. I have to only make the amount I should eat, or it will all be gone in one sitting. I do this by cutting a frozen pizza in half before I put it in the oven; put the other half right back in the freezer. So I understand!

Sometimes I am ok at limiting myself, like just having 4 pieces of individually wrapped easter candy to take the edge off (a serving was six or seven). If I have crackers or Prestzels as a snack I put them in a bowl and don't take the bag with me. However I am a food addict, more so than anyone else I know. I also have the problem that I love to cook and bake. This means my wife and I go to the store and I will see something that looks to good to pass up but I wont get it. However it is still sitting there in the back of my mind so I get home and what do I do? I will bake/cook whatever it was. The problem with this, while healthier with the recipes I use, is that now instead of having say, 1 muffin or cookie, I have a whole pan of them. As much as I try to limit it and take the rest to work it just doesnt often work out that way. Maybe if I did not have tastebuds???

This is a good point.  I do the same thing (when I remember). I buy the mini York Peppermint Patties.  They satisfy my sweet cravings, but I don't like them well enough to eat more than 1 or 2 at a time.  I can have a bag in my kitchen drawer until they go horribly stale.

I often buy ice cream in flavors I don't particularly like so that I can have some on hand but not be tempted.   I also only give out candy that I don't like on Halloween.  Come to my house if you want Reese's PB cups or Milkyways!
