Pre-race routine:

4 Hammer Gels
1 Endurolyte (Hammer)
1 Can FRS
Event warmup:

Stretched with foam roller 10 minutes
Wall calf stretch 10 minutes
Swim
  • 04m 37s
  • 250 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out strong and finished strong. Passed one swimmer. Breathed unilateral most of the time. Pushed off the walls, did not do flip turns although in hind site I should have done the flip turns. Might have produced a better time.
What would you do differently?:

Flip turns. Will do this in the next Sprint in April at the YMCA in Salisbury.
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

Had a little trouble getting my helmet strap to click. Time for a new one. Odd, never seem to happen UNTIL a race!!!
What would you do differently?:

New helmet and practice with the shoes already clipped in. Think this will save some time in the T1 area.
Bike
  • 38m 44s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.25 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Look into joining Team In Motion to start doing group rides. Hit the TacX harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Run
  • 27m 17s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Did MUCH better than I ever thought I would do. Still want to work in some speed, but after reading Running Injury Free some, I'll approach this slowly.
Post race
Warm down:

Wall stretching, 10 minutes worth on both calves
10 minute massage at the mall that night. I thought that Chinese gal was going to kill me. She side I was very tight in the back, on the right side. This was very painful, but I'll have to say that today I feel pretty good.

Event comments:

This time of the year anything can happen with the weather. With that in mind, we were VERY lucky this year with it NOT raining during the event. The weather called for rain in the a.m. the night before. Fortunately the rain held out till noon for us. Well organized, plenty of volunteers, nice award ceremony at the end. Great job, will be back next year.

Great race this past weekend!  It was chilly outside that morning but luckily it didn't rain!  Good luck at your next race in April!
