Swim

  • 547 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

swam well and tri top didnt drag much in the water. it was a TT start and i was #44 but came out of the water #11. tried to keep a hard steady stroke. felt good thru out and really enjoyed the cool water. had tinted googles and it was raining so sighting wasnt the best. once out of the water your have to run close to 150yards or so to T1 so times seem slower than they really were.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

flew thru T1 but once on bike struggled with getting feet into shoes.
Bike
  • 38m 39s
  • 14 miles
  • 21.73 mile/hr
Comments:

was rather timid on the bike due to rain coming down. on the first turn a guy wiped out hard in front of me which made me slow it down. the out and back is uphill the entire way out and downhill coming back. there are several sharp turns both ways which required you to go super slow not to wreck. after the race i saw lots of folks with road rash. back to the action. so i pass several folks on the way out and by the turnaround i take the lead. i then push hard and dont see anyone behind me near the end. i roll into T2 with the lead but being a TT start that doesnt me you are actually winning.
What would you do differently?:

push harder but with the rain it was tough to get past the mental hurdle of being a pussy
Transition 2
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

pretty good T2, especially since i had to put my socks on
What would you do differently?:

none
Run
  • 19m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

flew out of T2 and hauled up the big hill. clocked the first mile in 6:40 and felt like i was going to puke. after i caught my breath a really tried to push but had to slow a few times to run thru a gate and then thru a rocky dried up creekbed. i hammered back down the hill and then pushed the last mile until i hit the park and cruised the last 400m. skipped all the water stations but didnt have any issues.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

ate sausages wraps

What limited your ability to perform faster:

been training for an IM so not much speed work has been done on the bike

Event comments:

i really enjoy this race, especially with the course change. the swim is awesome b/c of the clear spring water and fish swimming around you. i like out and back bikes on shorter races and the run has a big hill that really challenges you.

I'm confused; you swam with no suit, but you had a tri top, yet you stopped in T2 to put socks on??

And you call yourself a triathlete? Hmmm...

Oh wait! You did place 3rd overall, AND win the AG, so that must mean you're fast or something.
