Cops: Chicago River jumper just wanted a swim April 21, 2010 8:12 AM A man who told police he "just wanted to go for a swim" apparently jumped into the Chicago River this morning near Clark Street and Wacker Drive, police said. The man, who was intoxicated, was pulled out by Fire Department rescue personnel, officials said. "When they pulled him out he told them he just wanted to go for a swim,'' police said. The man, believed to be about 35, was taken in fair-to-serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital about 7:20 a.m., said fire department spokesman Quention Curtis. Police said officials are considering whether the man will get a psychiatric evaluation. Police were dispatched to the scene after a cell-phone caller called 911 and reported that a partially clothed man who may have been intoxicated had jumped into the river, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

I was about to tell people that he'd smuggled in his cell phone by hiding it... and (after sanitizing the phone to the best extent one can while in prison) texted me from the jail library 

I like my story much better than yours.

mr2tony - 2010-04-21 11:14 AM I'm free! Finally! OK so the story was totally overblown. I didn't say `I want to go for a swim.' I just went for a swim and when I came out they were waiting for me. They were unhappy because someone called 911 apparently and reported a `jumper' ... so the cops just took me downtown, which is like two blocks from my place and put me in the library where I had access to facebook but not BT. They lucky too cuz I was gonna go all Billie Ray Valentine on they azzes.
