Pre-race routine:

coffee, protein shake w/ banana & creatine, 1/2 english muffin
Event warmup:

stretching and 10 minute bike ride - didn't want to run due to the calf cramp I was nursing
Run
  • 15m 59s
  • 1.8 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

started out fast with the pack 7:45-7:53 min/mile for 3/4 mile then settled into 8:30 pace. KILLER HILL slowed me a little - fastest I have run to date
What would you do differently?:

pace a little differently
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Don't have transition times. But I felt good thru this. Everything was right where I needed it to be.
What would you do differently?:

don't eat the GU if I can't get enough water in!
Bike
  • 35m 40s
  • 5.5 miles
  • 9.25 mile/hr
Comments:

power came on the straight aways - upwards of 20 mph. As the trail narrowed, pace lowered. Had to walk bike up slight incline on 1st loop - didn't practice this area. Had to walk bike up KILLER HILL twice. But most everyone did too!
What would you do differently?:

Ate GU in T1 but didn't drink enough. I spent 1 1/2 lap in gut agony coz it just sat there like a rock! Spend more time on the mountain bike.....look at course map better
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Again, no times for T2
Run
  • 19m 42s
  • 1.8 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

lost steam during this run. Quads were screaming! I just settled back into an enjoyable pace.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

stretching and walking

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not used to riding a mountain bike. Need to start doing track repeats in training for an overall faster pace.

Event comments:

This was a fun race. They used cones to mark course and had volunteers in key spots. DJ music in transition zone/vendor area. Good snacks for after. Award and prize for winners.
