yeats - 2012-09-08 8:52 PM Redemption.  I got my first 100 mile buckle today at Hallucination 100 trail race in Hell, Michigan, three weeks after DNF-ing at Leadville.  The race started at 4pm Friday, rained for 8 hours overnight, and turned into a shoe sucking mudfest into the next day.  I managed to run an 18:41.  Can't even describe the feeling of crossing the line.

Aweseom! Congrats.  I read on your log that your buddy came in first and you came in second?? That's great. Did you guys run a lot of it together?

I knew my friend was going for the win and the course record, so although we did start together, when we got 1/2 mile into the race doing sub-8 minute miles, I said "good luck!" and hung back.  It does get kinda lonely out there late night if there isn't someone doing the same pace as you.  I listened to podcasts just to hear some human voices!

It looked like you guys weren't that far away from each other at all.

I have my first 100 coming up soon and am thinking about putting a book or something on my mp3 player in case I get lonely.

No Ultra but thought about changing my Saturday Northface Endurance run from the Marathon to the 50K to finish sooner....50 miler starts at 5am 50K at 7am and marathon at 9am???? I then have to finish and  head to St Charles Illinois for Sundays marathon start at 7am...think Im gonna go ahead an take a side stop in Illinois tomorrow on way to Wisconsin so I dont stress after the Northface to get there in time saturday afternoon...it's only 40 miles out of the way.  This is my first back to back marathon so am anxious to see how it feels compared to a 50 miler all at once.

Well....during Saturdays northface challenge marathon myself and about 4 others popped into an aid station and they said 1.7 miles left Whoo hoo!!! Me and another guy who was doing the 50 miler went ahead and refilled our bottles cause it wasHot out there and off we went....we we to the right and after my garmin said 25.9 and no finish in site I turned around and waited for they other guy cause I had passed him shortly before and said we are not on the right course he said well there is orange tape I said but no pink and there should be pink for marathon...we sent a fb request for help as we had no idea if this was gonna take us back out on the 50Miler or how far we had till we found someone...it ended up making a big 6 mile loop back to the aid station...they said yeah u r 1.7 miles now from the finish we said that's why u told us 6 miles ago and sent us to the right!! I was hyperventilating at this time asI was sooo upset knowing I had a Marathon to do the next day and the feeling for the past 6 miles of having no idea where and when we would be finish needless to say my race was changed to the 50K... Poor guy doing the 50Miler ended up with over 56 miles. My toes blistered again for All the hills...I finished today's marathon and took it easy one toe nail popped off around mile 16 but we taped it back on to be careful fr infection till I get home....long 7.5 hour drive now

First time I have not had a smile on my face when I crossed the line! The word was not knowing where we were how much further till we found someone, running out of water. I just went straight to the RD cause I had sent him a FB message in hopes of someone finding where we were and he did get that but didn't respond until we finally found our way around the extra 6 mile loop....can't have a race without volunteers but the 3 at this station I won't put words to what I feel for them and the dumbfounded look on their face while I was trying to breathe and ask why they sent us that way and even watched him go and me follow him? Oh well it's over now and I'm finally laying in my ow. Bed eating peanut butter filled pretzels.....what a great weekend :-)

ha, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Dehydration is never fun. Since you survived I'll laugh, and, I mean, you did get an extra 10k in right?

Well, I finished!  6:50:44 was my "official time" but I was just excited I beat the 9 hour cutoff!

I couldn't have asked for a better day to run my first ultra!  Nice and cool at the start; it warmed up to about 80 and overcast by the afternoon.  The course was awesome, volunteers even more awesome, and just a great experience all together.

I spent most of the last 2 weeks resting up and trying not to run.  By race morning I was antsy and ready to go! I really focused on holding myself back for the first half of the race for 2 main reasons: 1 it was my first ultra and didn't know how I would be feeling in those late miles, and 2 the beginning was all downhill.  I tried to stay with Fabrice like Dultra suggested, but after the first 5 seconds of the race I gave up on that idea!!  Those guys are fast!!! Tongue out

Around mile 10 I realized that I had made a big mistake; I hadn't been eating or drinking enough.  I freaked out and tried to overcompensate which led to me feeling waterlogged and sick by mile 18.  Miles 18 through 21 were really rough and I was walking pretty slowly here.  I was forcing myself to keep eating and drinking which didn't end well.  Most of it came back up on the side of the trail.  However, after that I felt fantastic and was able to run the last 9-10 miles pretty easily.

Crossing the finish was one of the most exciting things I've ever done in any race!  I was thrilled to be there, laughing hysterically with tears in my eyes.  I will definitely be doing another one in the future!

I can't believe it's finally here but I have OC100 this upcoming Saturday.  Last week my foot started to hurt me (I have an on again off again bad relationship with a second toe joint issue) and I've been taking the last week off from running to get to the starting line without it bothering me.   I signed up for this race last year but had to bail on it b/c of small injury and Bell's Palsy - My foot is feeling better everyday.  I'm just starting to get nervous about the race itself as I'm getting my drop bags together and everything. I've managed to hold off the nervousness until just a week before :-)

Bell's Palsy, I had that, can't imagine sucking a gel down with that. I went for chicken wings when I had it, messy.

Anyways, I have a good race.

This feels more like a confession:

I'm running the Heartland 100 Saturday. I was in fab shape doing consistent long back-to-backs when I signed up if that counts for anything. The last 6 months have been the most stressful (and since being a runner-unathletic) of my life so far, but I miss the prairie. I finished with plenty of time to spare last year, so hoping for some major race day magic.

I had my longest trail race to date yesterday.  Farmdale 10. Came out feeling strong and satisfied and looking ahead to one in early April (Potawatomi Trail Runs)--Thinking about signing up for the 30.

These are nothing compared to what you guys are doing. You are amazing!

Had a wonderful first 100 miler this weekend. Loved almosr every second of it. Lol right now, though, I wish I were a guy so I could pee in a gatorade bottle. It was such a great day.

Amber (InnerAthlete) completed her 2nd 100-mile race yesterday morning. She is en route home with cancelled and missed flights all over the place, but I wanted to post on her behalf.

It was an absolutely EPIC day (hours of downpour rain, cold, 30mph straight line winds, then sunshine at the finish) - really proud of everyone. Here's her finish line photo (more in my album):

back to back mary's this weekend....atleast they are only marathons and nobody can send me on a 50K loop this time! I havent had any long long runs since 4 weeks ago with the 50K/mary weekend  but hammies and other things have been tight and hurting so hopefully the extra rest helps and doesnt hurt.  Not worried about time just wanna get 2 more states and there is a 6 hour cut off and I am planning a 50K next weekend with 200 feet of stone steps times 4 laps!! WHOO HOO...then JFK50 is Nov 17th.
