I'm signed up for a 10 mile trail race in early November, but hoping to get at least one more loop in pacing a longer runner.

Not an ultra, but i'm part of a 4x25mile relay team this weekend at the Cactus Rose 100 in Bandera.  It will be a training run for me, getting ready for the Rocky Racoon 100 in Feb.

I start first at 5:00 am, so I need to get my headlamp and knuckle lights ready!

You doing the 10?? If my friend goes she will only do the 10.  Was really hoping they would get the snow but now it looks like it may be missing the Albion area? Dang! We are all rain over this way

I'll be at the Huff too.  They did get some snow today, so as long as it doesn't warm up too much, it will be a beautiful winter wonderland of a race.  Good luck everyone.

Were any of you there last year?  I did the relay last year and it was epic!!

I am; The Arrowhead 135. Back here for another try.

Starting at 7:00 a.m. Monday (Jan 28) and cut-off at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.

We missed the really cold weather by a few days and the forecast is favorably warm, but that might mean rough trail conditions.

Did the St Croix Scenic 50 miler today damn!!! 27% grades on the hills! Toughest by far I've ever done not that I've got a big résumé. Met the RD from the 70.3 held here and he talked with me while e was biking for a bit andWas telling me about some I the grades coming up I had to walk down someBackwards cause of my knee. He preceded to have the opinion that the course was prolly in the top 3 toughest 50Milers. I believe it!!! The hills the heat the humidity at this timeOf the year when most are having winter. I cramped some but workedIt out and actually would expect hell to feel just like this! Walking pretty good but legs and feet still twitching. Would recommend to anyone who wants a challenge!!!

Rocky is this week for me.  It's weird, no nervousness or anything this time around. I'm excited as it will be a really fun weekend camping with the wife, but for some reason I kind of just want it to be over so I can start thinking about my bike again.  I guess I can't focus on just one sport for too long or I get burned out.

Me too!

I'm actually REALLY nervous and feel like I don't know where to start...drop bags? How much extra stuff do I need? How much do I want to eat off the course...I feel like I know NOTHING.

Any advice veterans? Maybe I should start another thread.

My first 50miler. Did a brutal marathon in Dec, 2 in the last 2 weeks. No real 'mid distance' runs. Heh. Totally unprepared, but I'm planning on using my 29hrs to finish!

I think there is an RR thread in the Texas forum, but I'm the only one participating so it's a little quiet over there.

I don't have tons of advice since I'm pretty new, only in my first year of ultras.  But I'm planning on having drop bags at both the start/finish (Dogwood) and Damnation (you go by the Damnation aid station twice).  There is a good ultra drop bag checklist here.

Last year I had change of socks and shoes which worked out great because of the mud.  But its so sandy there, even without rain I would still bring a change of socks at least.

I eat mostly the on course food, plus a few gels inbetween aid stations.  The folks at these aid stations are ultra vets -- they know exactly what you need.  They have pretty much everything you need/want, and stuff you didn't even know you needed or wanted and you'll find out how awesome it is (like a cheese quesadilla, or hot ramen noodle soup).

If you havent yet, check out the Tejas Trails facebook group.  Lots of chatter over there, and tons of good advice.

Also, I like to read everything on the race website.  Make sure I know the route and the cutoff times for each aid station just in case (you won't need that for the 50 with the 29 hr time limit!)

Rocky is a really fun course.  You'll love it. Took me 10 hrs and some change for the 50 last year in the mud, so I know you'll do awesome.

Nope, a DNF for me this year. It started snowing during the night and it just killed us foot guys; I just could not pull the sled fast enough through the 8" of fresh snow. Stopped at the 42 mile mark.

There are a few guys left on the course but it's tough going for sure.

Heard wolves howling at sundown, so my race is complete. :-}

Because no registered Texan has finished yet and it's a hard event.
