Oh, and I swam at Folly Beach the other day.  It is well south of MB, but the water was basically like bathwater.  I'm not expecting this to be wetsuit legal (but I'm still going to repair the rip in my wetsuit, just in case!).

I checked the tide charts and it looks like we are swimming first against, and then with, the end of the outgoing tide.  The swim (for the 1/2) should be over before the tide changes.  The size of the tide is small to medium.  It doesn't look like it's going to be a huge issue for or against us.  Looks like we swim about 500m against, then the rest with.

I may be "gun shy" but I ate Chinese food a couple of weeks ago and felt like I was in a coma the next morning. It is now off my training meal plan. (I now Japanese and Chinese are different but I am not taking any chances) Italian sounds great.

Hahhaa  so now -ese ending foods!!!

Yes it is the Grand Strand Fall Bike Rally next weekend---not exactly the same as bike week in Myrtle (spring event) is my understanding---that said a guy I work with has parents that have ended up in Myrtle during bike week and said no issues since there are so many hotels and places to eat and it's NOT a busy time of year (any time other then middle of summer).

How about revisiting the idea of a quick meeting before the meeting?

I'll probably bring my own dinner with me, so I won't stick around for a restaurant meal, but if that ends up being the consensus, I'll try to stop by to get a chance to meet everyone, anyway.

Getting EXCITED!

I'm up for a quick meeting before/during the meeting---anyone know anything about the location---like we can meet by the 3rd palm tree on the left or something like that!?!?

Still always fun for a dinner if people are up for that---I know Carol did a great job setting it up for B2B last year and then not even being able to make itTongue out

Edit to add:  I should be getting in sometime around lunch time (late lunch) on Thurs so I'll probably pick-up my packet on Thurs---if anyone else has this in mind post a time and maybe we could meet up there...at least a few of us...

I'm up for a meet-up, preferably before the meeting (not sure I'll actually sit through the meeting).  I don't know the area at that level of detail, but it looks like there are a few locals in this thread who might.

I'm not sure whether I'll be able to do dinner, but maybe.

My weekend is mostly open. I'll be arriving around 9 on Thursday and my only plans are to spend part of my time hanging out with my sister in law either at Broadway at the Beach or some other touristy place.

OK, so (a) I love racing in the rain and (b) I am a wetsuit hopeful.  So I say let it rain!

The rain will cool the water down. It's been pouring down all day. For a place to meet you may want to try the nice little bar/cafe (the anchor cafe?) on the water by the swim start (just to the left of the 3 orange dots on the swim course map). You can check out the water and get a beer!

Record rainfall today - the most in one day since the 1850's!!  And another 6+ inches of rain on the way!  The good news is a cool front is following and right now the prediciton for race day weather is a high of 78 and more seasonable weather!!!

That sounds good weather wise!!!

On another note---over on ST there's a post about the bike course and someone just posted that via email they were told there will now be a SECOND aid station at mile 14.  If this is true (which makes sense too sense that would be an aid station for the Oly folks too since otherwise they didn't have one on the bike) then it would seem that we would hit that on both laps so that would mean mile 14, 28 (originial location) and 42.  I'm going to try and email RD to see what's true.

Dork DayTongue out

Ok so I always get my bike in race set-up and then do at least one workout with it set-up well today was the day---got the boys on the bus and then a nice relaxing morning of switching tires, tubes, putting wheel cover on, putting race wheel on and then grabbing the aero helmet and going for a ride----yup gotta look like a dork just going out for a few intervals with race wheels and aero helmet!!!!  That said---what a great feeling!  I love my bike (especially with race wheels)---it feels so fast...I always forget it and since I haven't raced since May (life has gotten in the way of this race season...) I really forgot how fast my race set-up feels...now I just need to bring my race ENGINE!!!

UltraMax recently posted volunteer instructions on the race website. The assignment spreadsheet shows 2 water bottle stations requiring volunteers - 1 at "31 Highway at the turnaround point towards Highway 501" and 1 at "near the Marina Inn Resort Entrance".

I think the first aid station is about 2/3 of the way through the loop. So aid stations at approximately miles 18, 28, and 46?? Anyone want to check my math?

Wait, you guys enjoy all that bike prep that goes into getting ready for a race? I wonder if that's a male/female difference? I find it very stressful, and always think "Gosh I wish had a crew to do this for me!"

Nooo you MUST do it yourself!!!  It's something I need during taper week---takes my time and the attention to detail keeps me from losing my mind.  It also just makes me feel more "at one" with my bike---like I actually am a part of it.

As for the bottle hand-offs----I got an email back from someone with Ultramax (company putting on race)---they said yes there will be a 2nd hand-off at the 2nd turn around near 501---so this would give "four chances at water or gatorade"---seems more like three to me since the original hand-off is basically at transition so unless you grab a bottle just before the dismount line...................he also explained the last minute change to Gatorade on the bike---Ultramax has Hammer as a sponsor so they use Heed/Hammer products BUT this is a USAT race put on by Ultramax and USAT has Gatorade as a sponsor sooooooooooo we get some type of Gatorade on the bike---they were checking what type---as in G, G2, etc....

Hello

Just my opinion but with the way the weather has been here on the coast (Charleston) I think the race will be wetsuit legal on Saturday.
