Heart Rate Monitor on while being with your sig. other.  I know someone's had to have done this.

What is the TT threshold testing protocol for this anyway?

I think I'll look into developing a protocol for field testing LT this weekend...

Will wearing it on your active arm influence the results?

It's been done. Many times. Past threads have chronicled such.

You can catch a bird if you put salt on its tail.

Why anyone would want a salty-tailed bird is their own business.

NO.  For her sake.  Stay in Z2.  Indurance zone.

Thinking about it i'll just be in Z4-Z5 the majority of the time.

Not a good idea.  I mean, if you want to make it a "super sprint," then go straight to Z4, but  I find that my partner prefers a steady Z2 effort that allows for a more "iron-distance" effort.

Not to say that a bit of Z4-Z5 effort isn't appreciated from time to time, especially as the finish line approaches.

^^^^This is the correct answer.  Trust me she will appreciate it.

RPE Zone HR ZoneDescription
0 Z1Complete Rest
1 Z1Very easy; light walking
2 Z1Very easy; light walking
3 Z1Very easy; walking
4 Z1Still easy, maybe starting to sweat
5 Z2Starting to work just a little and you can feel your HR rise
6 Z2 UpperWorking but sustainable, able to talk in full sentences
7 Z3Strong effort; breathing labored, but can still maintain pace for some minutes without slowing.
8 Z4Olympic Distance Race Pace for MOP to FOP
9 Z510k effort – very hard
10 Z5+Z5+ = 5k effort and Z5++ = cannot hold effort for more than a minute or two. (almost maximal effort)

Z2 Upper - able to talk in full sentences? Thats the zone you want to be in? Really?

so maybe it's more Z3-Z4

I would prefer to go more than "some minutes" thanks.  Z3-4 for the final effort.

Or shall we just call you rocket ship?  Wink

It’s been my experience that for the best results one needs the ability to randomly vary the speeds through the entire range of zones over the course of several hours and only venturing into Z4 when one’s partner begs.

Of course, if you’re going solo or paying for the company, knock yourself out and go for that Z4 experience and save yourself some time and money.
