Swim
Comments: First time to start in the middle. It was not to bad, but for sure got the heart rate up. water was clear enough to see feet so I knew when I was coming up on someone. I ran into a few from the previous waves who may have been standing to cath there breath. What would you do differently?: Swim more. I thought this is what I would swim, but during the swim I thought I needed to train more. This seems to be the recurring theme in my training. Transition 1
Comments: I wish people would not stop side by side figuring out how to clip in pedals during a race. What would you do differently?: Sign up earlier to get a rack closer to bike exit. Bike
Comments: My goal was to avg closer to 23, but I guess I am not ready for that yet. The headwind out was not nice at all and it felt like a continuous incline going out. At the turn around I saw a rider go down and it looked bad. He was sitting up, but it sounded bad when it happened. After the turn we had a tailwind and I flew the rest of the way. I was glad no one flew past me like I was standing still. What would you do differently?: I need to get some interval training in. I think this limited my ability to hammer longer. I just need more miles more miles and some more miles. Transition 2
Comments: Yanks and going sockless makes for a fast transition. Run
Comments: I was gassed for the entire run. I never hurt, but I just could not catch my breath. During my brincks in training I would feel better by mile 2, but I think the heat and humidity may have drained my go fast. My goal was to run closer to 7 minute miles, but I just could not get there. This leads me back to swim and bike more and I will hit my 7 min mile goal. What would you do differently?: bike more Post race
Warm down: drink water, double daves, huged son (wife denied my hug because of sweat and smell), and thanked my dad for comming out What limited your ability to perform faster: heat, humidity and not swiming and biking enough Event comments: This was the first race for me to do with the AG. I still am 220 pounds, but I want to be fast so I thought I would push harder racing with the age groupers. When the results were first show I was 4th place and I was dissapointed. why? I am very competitive! I had a goal of 1:25 and I missed by a few minutes. For the first time I think I do not train near hard enough, but things will change. I hooked direc TV up in the garage so I can get on the trainer when it is dark so I can get interval and tempo training in. I want to shave 49 minutes off my HIM time and this race was a wake up call. Now I am off to find money for a power tap, garmin and coach- LOL Last updated: 2010-05-09 12:00 AM

Age Group Rank = 3/21
woke up a 4am to get ready for the drive. Took a shower and left. I had a PB&J, coffee and water on the way.
Ran a little with some strides. Just enough to calm the nerves.
