Subject: pubic bone pain
After my long runs or after somewhat hilly runs I have pain in my pubic bone for several hours.  On the right side.  Is this a hip joint thing?  Sometimes I notice it after a really hilly bike ride too.  I'm fine while sitting or laying down, but as soon as I stand up and put weight on my legs, I have pain in the pubic area with every step.  I googled it, and got a bunch of info regarding this pain during pregnancy.  I'm not pregnant.  I did do a marathon late March, and was having the pain on some of the longer runs prior to the event.  While running the marathon I had some hip pain, but it was more of a piriformis type pain radiating down the butt/back of the leg.  I've also had some sciatica all on the same side.  Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

jami

If it were me, I'd go see a chiropractor. Could be your Pubic Symphysis.

This is from Yahoo Answers:

the pubic synthesis is the piece of cartilage that holds the pubis of both sides of the pelvis together. Sometimes it gets nudged out of place. A chiropractor or a good sports massage therapist can help alot. I had an instructor who's pubic synthesis was a bit out of wack, showed us this technique, and it poped back in to place. It works

Go see a manual therapist of some sort... Chiro, Physio, or massage therapist (if they are properly trained)

Your pelvis may be slightly out of alignment causing you some pain...

Hi,

While symphysis pubic dysfunction is common in pregnancy (I have suffered from this twice) you can get similar pain symptoms from referred pain from the hip joint. This could be the result of impingement of the top of the femor j to the hip socket or tears in the cartilage.

I went to see the physio a couple of months ago with groin pain radiating to the pubic area and it turned out for stem from the hip. I suggest you see a good orthopaedic surgeon ( one who specialises in hips). X- Ray's will confirm if it pathological (I. E bone structure) and MRI will pick up anything to do with the soft tissues.

For me, I had a cortisone lidocaine injection to the hip joint and both trochanteric bursae ( together with a nerve block to the lumbar spine) so I am relatively pain free and enjoying a skiing holiday. Hip surgery on the cards though!!

To follow up on my report I saw the Chiropractor today and he said I have a high adductor strain so he worked on me today doing the A R T treatment and we are hoping I can return to running in a couple of weeks after a few more session with him.

Good luck with it!!
I had it when pregnant with both of my boys. It was so bad I could barely walk. Every once in a while, mainly when running after a hard bike I can feel a twinge. I immediately slow to a walk and then start jogging again slowly.

My hips start to roll forward when I start doing longer bricks. Iv'e had good luck with my chiropractor just making regular adjustments.

Glad you're running again.
