you are welcome to join my group. About half of the people that signed up disappeared a week into it!

Same here... we have a few regular posters, but many of the folks who signed up kind of dropped out. I would certainly welcome a few more!

Still pretty new to the site...what is a mentor group and how do they work?

I never bothered to even look in that forum much since it said it's all closed.

You could also go to the challenges forum for a little fun motivation for helping to meet your goals.

I agree with others, don't reinvent the wheel...

If you introduced to almost any group they would accept you!   Also, the new groups will be starting in about a month or so.  There will be ample opportunity then!

It is useful for a mentor group, to have a mentor!

JMHO...that's all, no more, no less!

According to the subtitle under the Mentor Group title:

Our Spring/Summer 2010 Mentor Program is FULL. The next program will be starting in mid-December 2010.

I will look into the other groups though... I'll have to look at most of them and then I'll PM the Mentor and ask permission.

There were 2 offers in this thread.  If you have any trouble, then our group can take another as well (although we have a lot of testosterone with 1 lone femaleSurprised).

Different groups work differently, but in general it is a smaller environment where you can ask questions of someone who might know the answer, or who would probably know where to look for the answer.  It's also a great mutual-support environment.  You can share stuff with each other that really doesn't need to be the topic of a world-wide thread (like "I had a great swim today..." or "I did my first group ride today, and here's what I thought..." and so on.

Feel free to check out my group if you want to see one example.

The subject lines of the mentor groups all say 'closed' (or some variation on that theme) because when the groups are forming, there has to come a time when, for the moment, there are enough people in the group.  Sometimes, after a while, some participants may drop off for whatever reason, in which case the group might be open to late-comers.

OP has it right -- if you want to join, look at the groups and find one that seems about right, then PM the mentor.
