Just a thought...  I never tried actual compression gear before, BUT I noticed that baseball socks seem to have a lot of elastic and seem pretty compressive compared to standard socks.  PLUS come in lots of cool colors and are WAY cheaper...

Could this be "semi" alternative?

Maybe someone who has both can chime in about the difference in compression?

I have both. I played in a softball game last friday night and did my first olympic tri saturday morning. I used baseball socks for the ball game, and I chose to wear compression socks for the tri. There is a huge difference. Baseball socks take about 20 seconds to put on, and the compression socks take a couple mins to put on. (Yes, it killed my transition time, but I was more interested in preserving my calf muscles).
