Age Group Rank = 12/14
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5AM had a bowl of Kashi Go Lean Crisp cereal with soy milk, checked email. Put bike rack and bike on the car and drove to the site. I quickly got my body marking and set up my transition area. Found Chad (Chaderbox)and Adam (Blade)and we hung out waiting for our time to start the swim.
Event warmup:

I actually did not warm up at all.
Swim
  • 06m 44s
  • 274 meters
  • 02m 27s / 100 meters
Comments:

Never figured out the changing lanes under the lane ropes.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 02m 40s
Bike
  • 28m 51s
  • 9 miles
  • 18.72 mile/hr
Comments:

I really tried to ride as hard as I could on this ride since it was so short. I was happy with my level of effort on this ride.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

I have plenty of room for improvements in this transition.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to do a flying dismount.
Run
  • 36m 59s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I was really struggling coming off the bike, since I had pushed it harder than normal. I got my legs under me about 1/2 mile into the run though. I then started chatting with a novice and ended up running with her to the end of the race. This was nice, but the pace was slower than I would have ran if I had not been chatting. I did not push it on the run at all.
What would you do differently?:

Focus on keeping my pace up.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water and had 3 oreo cookies.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My weight (maybe I should have laid off the oreo cookies ;) )

Nice race man.  When we train together, you'll have to slow down on the bike for me though.  In turn, I'll slow my swim and run for you.

We're really nearly identical in our paces.  I didn't push my bike too hard but just tried to ride consistantly in regards to cadence.  But I do think you're a better rider than I am.

It was really great to finally meet Michael (Experior) and Peter (pschriver) yesterday, and to see Chad (Chaderbox) and Adam (blade) again.  I wish we could have gotten a group photo though, that would have been cool. Maybe at the next race we BT'ers can go out for some recovery smoothies or something.

Smoothies?  Smoothies????  I think that must have been a typo.  Maybe when you typed 'S' you meant 'B', and when you typed 'moothies' you meant 'eer'.

Let's do it.

I can't agree with you more...

Smoothies?  Maybe after the smoothies we can have s'mores and play hide and go seek.

Some how I knew you guys were going to get a kick out of my smoothie idea.

So when are we all going to be at the same race?  We are all doing B2B, Michael is doing the full while Chad and I are doing the half.  When are you guys going to head to Wilmington?  Currently the family and I are heading up on Thursday.

I know this sounds a little crazy before IM, but I probably can't get out of Columbia before noon Friday at the earliest.

I'd be game for something after the race, if you guys are planning on sticking around a while.  I don't know when the race starts, but assuming it starts around 7am and nothing goes horribly wrong with my race, I'll be finishing in time to get some early evening beers.  Cool
