Comments:

started out great and took the lead for the open wave. was pacing well and breathing well. about 150m in one of the eyes filled up with water. soon the other one did and by 200m the goggles were around my neck. i could feel them slowing my down so i ripped them from my neck and then lost them in the water. this made sighting tough b/c when i looked up i still had water in my eyes for a split second. i continue to push and follow the paddle board leading us. i exited the water first and ran hard to t1.
What would you do differently?:

make sure my goggles are on tight
Transition 1

Comments:

no issues. the t1 run was long.
Bike

Comments:

this course is non stop rollers so its hard to get into a rythm. i came out of T1 next to richard freer and immediately he gapped me on the bike. i worked hard to keep him in sight and did an ok job but i was hurting bad doing so. once we hit the tollay it was flat for a mile or 2 so i hammered hard to get some seconds back. the last stretch was into a stiff headwind and a guy on the course near t2 said i was down 1min.
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

went really quick thru here
Run
  • 17m 44s
  • 3 miles
  • 05m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

ran really hard thru the first mile to catch richard and did so at about mile 1.5. i was really hurting by now and the sun was baking me. i managed to keep pushing thru mile 2 to get a good gap and then i cruised the last mile.
What would you do differently?:

need to remember next time to keep pushing since the AG waves are still going strong behind you.
Post race
Warm down:

lots of fluids and pizza

Event comments:

really well run race. went about 20sec slower than last yr but feel i was in way better shape at last yrs race.

Another smokin' fast race. I just knew you could pull out a win.

Sounds like you had a solid race with no GI issues for once.

Excellent job as usual Todde!  Way to push it on the bike to keep the next person within striking distance.

Excellent race! Congratulations on the big overall win! Your description of the bike course made me feel good about some of the rollers!
Nice way to overcome the goggles--good thing it was just a sprint!!
