Subject: Two races in two weeks?
Hi,

Myself and some friends have been training for the London Triathlon Olympic distance on August 7th. We're doing ok and now believe we can finish it which was always the only target. However we've done a couple of small races, a super sprint and a biathlon (750 swim, 5k run). Now we are thinking of racing a Sprint race on July 24th, only TWO weeks before the big one.

Question is, is this a good idea or should be train for the big one???

Thanks

I would do it.  Use the Sprint as a continuation of your training.  Plus it will help you refine your transition skills.  But I'm far from an expert.  Perhpas other opinions will vary.

I'm training for London. Was thinking about the Cambridge also but it's the week after. Both Olympic distance. Is this too close :-)

Which group you in? I'm Mens 25-29 Group 1. 11:40 start time.

I'd say that a sprint two weeks out is doable, you could use that as your last hard effort before the Oly.  Take it fairly easy the next week, taper the week after that, and then you hit the Oly.

Of course, it might also be a little too much, too close together, I'd have to say you need to think about it based on how you feel.  Are you feeling strong and fit at this point?  Or a little tired?  That would be the deciding factor I think.

As far as racing two weekends in a row (as someone else asked) I think that's a little too much, asking for injury, etc.  I guess you could try it and see what happens.

I'm doing a sprint tomorrow morning and an Olympic 6 days later, next weekend. Very doable. Go for it!

you should be fine. i try to space things at least two weeks apart. i just did a half-marathon, 2 weeks later a sprint, and next weekend (2 weeks later after the sprint), an oly. if its a sprint, it will be a great warm up for the longer race. i did a 10k last year, the weekend before a 1/2 marathon. it worked out so well with my taper that i'm doing it again this year!
