Age Group Rank = 22/28
Pre-race routine:

followed the tried and true routine. Wake in plenty of time, load car, eat oatmeal and cran juice on the road. This is working to be a stress free routine and good. Nice to be able to replicatre this. Just need to tighten up exact direction to the site. mapquest was okay but hard to follow and a gas station attendant had NO idea and was going to send me to a wrong place but a nice tri coupel stopped by and told me to follow them.
Event warmup:

Plenty of time to set up etc. VERY nice venue!! shady park, shady routes. Spent a bit of time standing in the mens room line but used this time to stretch.
Swim
  • 15m 19s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

my average "get thru it" swim. Fist 200 yards was not in a rythm so worked opn that. Stayed out of the fray for the most part but did bump into a few folks. no speed, just be comfortable.
What would you do differently?:

eventually I woiuld like to gain some speed but this is fine for now.
Transition 1
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

Got to remember my elastics next time!! realized when setting up that I forgot them but actually worked out since the route to the mat was muddy and my feet would have gotten all messed up, so the regular way was good.

A little fumbly w/ wetsuit. heels and watch mainly.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 44m
  • 15 miles
  • 20.45 mile/hr
Comments:

WOW!! was able to smoke the bike!! felt good about it. kiccked the downhills and hit a max of 36 consistantly on one particular downhill which was cool becasue it was the most crowded area and the folks loved it!

mulitple loops can be boring but the advantage is that you get to know the ins and outs so this is cool.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

this went okay. felt good coming off the bike, minor issue of socks on and tying shoes but overall good.
What would you do differently?:

quick laces, small socks.
Run
  • 45m 50s
  • 5 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt good, no wobblyness. Just focused on maintaining a consistant pace thoughout, nothing stellar just to pace since it was longer than a usual sprint. Was thinking OLY the whole time, different strategy for that.

saved enough for a sprint to the finish. Not totally spent like times before.

Legs were a little sore from fridays run but I dont think this effected much.
What would you do differently?:

push a bit harder if I knew the course and my capabilites better. Find a rabbit.Actually did find a good pace group towards the end which helped.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some grub, packed my stuff and had to head out to pick up my son a scout camp in RI.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my swim abilities, some run improvement.

Event comments:

race was good. The lions organization provided lots of very nice volunteers. One imprtovement that was done was marked course at water stops! 1.3 m/2.5 m and 4.2. This is great!!

I see by the race results that AMINE was there, wish I had been able to meet up with him.AMINE did GREAT!! He is fast!! way to go Amine!!

Overall, felt good about the race effort, next week is an oly w/ TAGP. So that will be FUN!! :) I did wear my BT singlet and will next week.

Outstanding race, Glen! Great times, even kicking back on the swim.

And, as Kathy said, glad I chose a shorter sprint as well. Those were some long distances for a sprint, no?

Keep up the good work!

Hey Glen great job.  I was hoping to do this race, but for some reason I thought it was next week ??!  I did it last year and remember liking the distance and the course.

WTG, Glen!  Awesome swim and bike, but the run time was slower than your normal pace (yes, I do know how fast you are).  I bet you were holding back (you know, like fighting with one hand behind your back) in preparation for your upcoming OLY.

Thanks for the RR.

Glen! You killed it on the bike!! Man! Nice race and I loved your description of the shade trees, sounded perfect!! I have to agree with Karl, where was your run speed? You are WAY faster than that!! BUT hey, you still were fast, it's just we know how FAST you can be!!

Congrats!!

So are we meeting next weekend at the YMCA Oly?
