Swim
Comments: Our wave was all non athena women. I seeded myself in the front. I'd rather be swum over than have to climb over people. I did excellnt out tot he first turn and across the top. I think current was a factor coming in. There were a few red caps in front of me lots behind me and I was by myself (AGAIN) in the middle. Swam strong and hard with a good rhythm and FINALLY touch bottom. Ihit my watch running out of the water (See T1) 8th female out of the water out of 65 2004 8:49 2005 8:33 2007 8:14 2008 7:02 2009 10:45 2010 7:43 What would you do differently?: Have had swim issues lately with sessions being canceld due to storms and work issues plus I hate the new masters coach so I am not overly motivated to go swim right now. Need to swim more but over all this is my second best time at this race so I can't complain as you never really know how far it REALLY is. They just boat out and throw some buoys in the water. Transition 1
Comments: Well this was not so great. They changed the swim exit this year and where the entrance to transition is. I hit my watch as I was coming out of the water. I HATE it when they have the timing mat after you run across the beach.....I KNOW I suck at running I do NOT need my running in the sand time included in my swim time thankyouverymuch. 4 people passed me on the run up the beach. Once in transition I took like 20 seconds. Helmet and glasses on off I go. Had shoes on bike. OK it took me 44 seconds to run up the beach and 44 seconds in transition 2004 1:50 2005 1:26 2007 1:11 2008 1:07 2009 :54 2010 1:28 What would you do differently?: Really this is all about my ability to run or lack there of. I can hardly run on a solid surface much less soft sand. Bike
Comments: Head wind out and tailwind back for the most part YIPPEE:) I think this is my most solid bike at this race to date. I know my time doesn't seem to indicate it but we did have some serious wind today. I was quite winded to start and spent the first few miles getting my breathing and HR under control. I was pulling +19 easy on the way out. I was trying to stay about 21 on the way back. I think I had a solid bike compared to the field and I was at least 5 miles into the bike before I saw anyone coming back. Then I started looking for women.................I passed 2 or 3 and there were not many in front of me maybe 4 or 5. I did not get passed by any women and I only got passed by maybe 3 guys and 2 of those were relays. I think it was solid and I was the 7th woman in the field off the bike and first in age group. 2004 49:08 2005 47:41 2007 45:19 2008 44:31 2009 45:49 2010 44:30 What would you do differently?: I think I executed as well as I could with what I had on that day. Only things to do are to be lighter and bike more Transition 2
Comments: Well this seems to be getting worse and worse. Humph. I did sit down and put socks and shoes on. In 2004 I was not clipless therefore socks and shoes were already on. I used to bike with socks and now I do not. I need the socks and the drier I can get my feet the better. Really 15 extra seconds saving me the misery of blisters will save my 5 minutes on the run. Really it didn't SEEM that long......................I even RAN out of transition!! 2004 :48 2005 :52 2007 1:10 2008 1:06 2009 1:13 2010 1:34 What would you do differently?: Be FASTER with socks and shoes!!! Run
Comments: Not my best not my worst. Finished 27th female so 20 women passed me on the run. Lots more ran faster than me but alas its NOT just a running race (THANK GOD) and I had a good bike so there it is. Quite frankly given my severe lack of run training due to injury I am quite pleased with this. I was pretty sure I was first in age group off the bike so I just had to watch the numbers on peoples legs to see where I was in the race. I was a little winded coming out of transition so I ran for a while then took a walk break. Made it to to mile 1 in 11ish miles. The next 1/2 mile I had a side stitch and struggled a little. Made the turn around and headed back. I think I actually reverse split the run. I knew at least 3 people in my AG had passed me and I saw an uber skinny girl in my AG a mile behind me......seriously she weighs like 20# and looked fast (and she was she ran the 3 miles in 22 minutes!!). I didn't want to let her catch me. She didn't :) I took 2 more short walk breaks. For some reason I had it in my head my PB at this race was 1:28 and was trying to beat that. Tom picked me up the last 1/4 mile and I pushed it home. Turns out 1:25 is my PB on this course but whtever I did my very best that I could and it was not to be today. I'm good with it. 2004 34:40 2005 36:04 2007 32:12 2008 31:38 2009 35:10 2010 33:33 What would you do differently?: Not be so injured. Not be so fat. Honestly for as little as I have been able to run so far this year I am happy with it. My injuries did not bother me and are no worse for wear. I just need to be able to train consistently. Post race
Warm down: Took me a while to catch my breath. Found Tom and we got some food and water. I rinsed off and put on some dry things......really who wants to drive 100 mile shome in wet tri clothes? BLECH. Checked the results VOILA I placed :) whoop whoop :) Put my stuff up and got my uber cool medal. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of swimming, lack of run training, INJURIES, Need to drop some weight Event comments: I can honestly say I did the best I could and thought I executed as well as I possibly could on this day. Good stuff My little race is all grown up now and they have timing chips and everything. This was the very first tri I ever did and its special. Its grown yet is still small enough. Was thinking about that first year Wendi and I did it and drove up the day before and stayed in a hotel. We ate at Chillis and had diary queen the night before. Sat by the hotel pool and the braiding of the hair tradition thus began. This race will always be near and dear to my heart. I HIGHLY reccomend it for people starting out in tris. Its a simple course, not crowded and a good time is had by all. I love this race ~Sigh~ 2004 1:35:15 2005 1:34:38 2007 1:28:04 2008 1:25:28 2009 1:33:51 2010 1:28:50 Last updated: 2010-06-26 12:00 AM

***************TIMES OFF MY WATCH ********************
Probably accurate to within a few seconds anyway on the splits. Total time is correct.
Got up at the butt crack of dawn....really the middle of the night to drive the 100 miles tot he race site. Had pre-loaded the car. I got some scones at Panera the nightbefore but they didn'thave the kind I like and I didn't care for the 2 I ended up purchasing so I had some licorace. Got to the race site and got a primo parking place for both my car and bike. Got registered and set up and just laid down in the car for a while.
I swam a little. The water was very warm. I found Tom and we hung out a bit. Set up my area, drank my diet coke.
