Is anyone planning on doing this race?  It's being put on by Setup Events but it is the first year they are doing it from what I can see on the website.  I'm planning on running it and making a vacation out of it.  I live in Carolina Beach so we are going to head out for the race and then after the race we are heading on to Knoxville TN for a few days to relax.

Funny how the world goes around. You are leaving the beach to relax, I go to the beach to relax.
Have fun at the race.

My wife and I will be there.  Should be a good race since Setup usually does a top notch job with things.  It is the first year so I guess there is the unknown element in there.  I was going to try to check the course out but I'm almost out of weekends and I'm not sure if I'll be headed that way between now and the race.  If I do I'll post up what I find.

I'm in too. I like oly distance races so I'm hoping it turns out to be a good race. There are a lot of good roads up in the Mooresville/Lake Norman area so it should be a good course.

I'm in, this will be my first Olympic event so I'm looking forward to it.  Just did 68 miles in Mooresville over the weekend, with the Red Cross Lake Norman Excursion. Well run and it was a lot of fun with beautiful countryside.  I'll agree Setup Events does a great job with these things and yet to be disappointed with them.

I'm in also.  Will be my first Olympic, on my way to B2B half distance in November.  I've never done more than 800 yards in open water, so I'm looking forward to it.  Not too worried about it being a first time race because, as others have said, Setup Events always seems to do a good job.

Did you steal my identity?!  That is my situation as well.  First Oly and B2B Half.

Good to see I'm not the only one crazy enough to sign up for a half with only sprint experience!  Best of luck!

I'm sure most of you know about this, but just to make sure.   Lake Norman YMCA has an OWS this Saturday July 24th.  The OWS is actually in Lake Davidson according to their site.  Get there early, registration starts at 7:15 a.m. and there will be a lot of folks there.  If you are in the first wave, you can do 4 laps.  That's the reason to get there before 7:15.
Here's the link for more information:

I only did this once last year and it was a lot of fun.   Plenty of people out in boats watching and I plan to be there this weekend.  I noticed too, a lot of swimmers brought their bikes to ride afterward.

What is the course like?  I'm guessing it's rolling hills which to a beach bum like me means big hills.  I did a 40 mile loop through Wilmington and Carolina Beach and according to my GPS I only had 23 feet of elevation change.

This is only about my 8th triathlon.  I started last year with a few sprint races and this year I decided to try to "go long".  I did the Charleston Half and it was a blast.  I've done 2 other Olympic distance races this year and Stumpy Creek will be the last "long" race before I attempt the Full B2B.  I'm going to try to sneak in 1 more sprint before B2B just for fun.

The Lake Norman Excursion, which I did last weekend, isn't as close to Stumpy Creek as I thought, after checking the map.  (Which I hope is a good thing.)   The LNE was VERY hilly and if Stumpy takes us through Iredell County, expect to see some serious hills.  When Setup Events says "challenging" it usually means some tough hills.   I'll try to drive the course over the weekend to get a better sense of it and let you know.

That would rock if you could give me some more insight.  I guess it doesn't really matter because I'm going to do it anyway, but it would help in the mental preparation to know what I'm facing.

Checked the map out a little better and some of the LNE does overlap, which might not be a good sign.    I'll check it out and maybe snap some pics.

I guess this should fall under the "how you know your a triathlete" thread but I'm looking forward to the challenge of the hills.

Here's a profile of the elevation for the bike route.  2 to 3 decent hills so Wojo be prepared for those.  Should be a good ride.

Anyone interested in a practice ride of the course on Saturday, 7/31?  Meet at Stumpy at 0700?

I might be, should be able to confirm by Wednesday.   Haven't had a flat on the road for over two years, that is until two weeks ago at the LNE ride.  Then had a flat today 10 miles out, so I have to make sure I replace/ restock tubes and CO2 cartridges this week.  Always the rear tire for some reason.

I'm coming down from DC at the beginning of my vacation to do Stumpy Creek in a relay with my brothers.  I'm doing the swim, so a lot of the conversation doesn't apply to me, but I'll be passing it along to the boys.  There's really good info here.  Thanks.

I'm loving miles 19 thru 22!  Thanks for the assist on mapping out the course.  I expected a brief little line or 2 about the course but I never expected graphs!  That rocks.

Everyone see that the swim and run courses have been changed?  The swim is now counter-clockwise and upstream as opposed to clockwise and out into the lake.  The run finishes on the soccer field now.  Bike is untouched.

I'm way bummed out.  I got an injury that will prevent me from running/biking for 2 weeks, so I'm out for the Stumpy Creek race.  I'm trying not to get down about it and to start my mental focus for the HIM and IM I have coming up in Oct and Nov.  I guess it is best that I have this little set back now and not later.

Sorry to hear that Brad.  Hope you are feeling well soon and back at it.

I'm trying to wrap my mind around counterclockwise.  My left-side breathing is getting better but I'm pretty right-side dominant.
