I haven't seen an "Official Thread" yet so I thought I would start one.
4 Weeks to go.

I'll just say that after yesterday's performance, my optimism about finishing this around 6 hours has been tempered somewhat...

I cannot believe it is coming so soon! What happened to the time? For those of you that did the sprint and/or Peak, how was the packet pick-up? I heard it was LONG. Do you think it will be the same way for 70.3?

The Sprint was a mess, but the Peak was totally fine. No line at all.

x2, everything seemed to run much smoother for the Peak.  The only line I encountered was for the massage tent after the race...on the other hand, I walked right up to the tap at the Left Hand Brewing area

I think I may head up to ride the bike course on Friday afternoon...I won't be able to leave until around 3, so it will probably be 4-ish before I'm up there. Anyone interested in joining? It's not the best timing, but unfortunately, it looks like it might be my only chance...

My family and I took an impromptu trip to Boulder yesterday so I could ride the course. My husband and boys played in the res. while I rode. It was HOT, and I think it was 98 degrees when I rode, but I was so happy to finally be able to ride the course. It's actually a pretty fast course. Highway 36 to St. Vrain Rd. is a long, steady climb w/ some downhill breaks, but once you turn on St. Vrain Rd, it's so nice! 36 felt a little tough the 2nd time around, but overall I think it's a great course!

Will let you know...I have to run 12 in the morning, and I'm not sure how early yet, so I may not want to hang around too long, depending how long it takes me...

Is anyone planning to wear a fuel belt or wear/carry a other hydration system during the run?

Also, do the bottles of water and/or Gatorade fit snugly in an average water bottle cage or do they move around a lot?  I have never taken bottles from the bike course but I will need to do it for this race.
Thanks.

During the Peak I took a bottle and it fit just fine and didn't come out.

Last year it was pretty hot out there. I tend to overheat, I wore a L/S tech shirt and a wide floppy hat, got doused at every station.  And though I had forgotten my handheld sippy, someone at an aid station found a little gel bottle for me so I could sip between stations.  I only assume M-dot is doing a station at every mile the same as 5430 did.

So it's however your comfy.  I personally would rather carry than be caught without.

I have a Nathan pack that carries a bottle, it works really well for me.  REI carries them, and there are several models to choose from; the one I have has a little pocket I plan to stash some gels in for the run.

I'm not doing the race this year but I did in 2009.  There is plenty of water on the run course so no need to take your own unless that's what you want to do.  The run does get very hot!  A gatorade bottle will fit just fine in you cage.

I got a wet sponge at the 1st aid station and it was my best friend on that run last year.

Kathleen,
I'm planning on carrying my Nathan handheld water bottle with me on the run. It is great and really comfortable to wear! I hate taking water at aid stations b/c I never seem to get enough and/or I choke from trying to drink out of a cup. Plus, I like to be in control of when I take a drink of water.

Thanks for the responses!

Now I have another question Smile   If I wanted to check out the run course is the access road (or whatever road you go on to get into the reservior at mile 3) open?  Since they charge to get in I would assume it is closed but.....?

Thanks again!

I'm pretty sure it's closed, as that's the "Certain Death" canal. :-D They only open up that section for races, it's not generally open to the public, even if you pay for res entry.

It is closed.  When I pre-run the course I just continue past the canal to 63rd.  Turn right on 63rd and continue to Coot Lake.  From there you can pick up the trail that takes you across the damn and finish the loop.

I'm volunteering as a body marker so if some weird chick asks you to take off your pants, please don't punch her in the face. Thanks.

Is anyone going bring their own Hammer “endurlite” or similar products?  If so do you just drink it on the bike or bike and Run??  I’m sure it’s depends on the person but just curious what some of you are planning on for nutrition for this race.  It’s my first Half and I’m kind of up in the air because a few of my buddies tell me they just use what is provided on the course but I have not trained with Power bar products which I think is what they provide????

Im bringing my own nutrition and liquids, mainly b/c I cant stand don't enjoy the lemon-lime gatorade used on course.  That and I've spent the last couple of months experimenting with solids that don't bug my stomach
