I've searched and searched on here and can't find the even in the "Races" section. I have found the page for last year (2009) but can't find the page for this years ride. Anyone else thinking of doing this or already signed up?

I haven't seen a race entry on BT for 2010, but I am signed up for the century...

i'm planning on doing the century as well. it will be my third time doing it. i'll be using it as a training ride for IM FL. i want to get my nutrition, hydration, salt intake and whatnot dialed in. also need to practice 4+hours rides for aerobar and saddle time.

i'll probably be rolling my Zipp 808 clinchers, but still debating on that.......

I'm considering this ride, but had a pretty tough crash in the middle of a peleton last year at HHH.  I'm less than excited to ride in the middle of that many people again.

Once we got out of the huge packs it was a pretty good ride though.

What is your stratgey for accident avoidance in the HHH?

- avoid large groups
- only ride in packs of people you know/trust
- if you ever feel uncomfortable/unsafe in a group then GET OUT. either drop back or pull ahead
- remove yourself from a group right before, during and after the rest stops
- avoid large groups

Seems reasonable...

ETA - skip first rest stop...  maybe second one too....

Thanks Jeff, but I was looking for the BT racelink. I'm also thinking of doing this ride as a IMFL training ride, will definitely be rockin the 808 clinchers if I do if that helps you any TXNick.

I'm thinking about doing the HH100.  I've wanted to do it ever since I moved to Texas, but am really intimidated at the thought of riding in such a large group.  I'll probably end up doing it and attempt to avoid the large groups as much as possible.

Start riding with bigger groups now and get used to it.  The 100 miles will be much easier riding with a group.

+1 on skipping the first two rest stops if possible.

it's fairly easy to avoid the large groups. the easiest way is to start ahead of the actual start line (after the handi-capable and tandem cyclists).

just let the LARGER groups pass you, but you do want to try to find a smaller group who's pace is within your riding abilities.

this year i'm gonna be trying to avoid all groups and do absolute minimum amounts of drafting to prepare me for the IM bike leg.

F1longhorn - me and my training partner have both decided to ride our 808's. so if you see 2 guys riding together, both w/ decals on their front 808, and no decals on their rear 808, that'd be us lol. somehow we both ended up with said decal situation. it was/is weird.

I try to do this every year, but haven't been riding this summer due to terrible work demands. I am still considering doing the 100 just for the heck of it. For those who haven't done this ride:

1. Chipseal roads much of the way
2. Large groups throw a ton of water bottles on the road during the first 15 miles, so watch out. Don't know why they're all hitting their bottles that early and missing the placement back onto the bike.
3. Skip rest area #1 for sure. You might need to pee, but just wait. It's a crazy town.
4. Skip #2 also, if you can.
5. Take something to keep your electrolytes in balance during ride - every year I see some knucklehead weaving all over and falling down b/c he thought he could just do it without drinking/taking anything but water.
6. Find a group/paceline that fits you - do it as early as possible and save your legs for the back 30 miles.
7. Get used to hand signals and calling out debris before the ride, as the people behind you will be depending on you to call out potential hazards.

I camp every year on the river just behind the expo - it's awesome down there. Come visit!

^^^^ Thanks for the info.  I'm still back and forth on this event.  I'm trying to decide between the HHH or the Waco Wild West 3 weeks later.  I've heard the WWW is a more difficult course, but it's in my backyard!

I've got about 8-10 friends meeting up to do this and I might be joining them. Not 100% sure yet.

I won't be doing the century (too much distance for me at this stage), but perhaps the metric.

OK, no more "might"

Signed up and room is paid for (friend already booked a block, so I was set).

I'll be on two wheels, not three like my avatar. Looking forward to riding with 12,000 of my closest friends!

Well I just recently looked at a map to see what drive time would be for this race from Austin and now I'm having some second thoughts. I don't know if I'll have the time to get away from school that long to do the ride. Still on the fence, so we'll see what happens.

I think I'm in on this...done it twice, but not in the last couple years.  Expo was always a good place to get some good deals on apparel and such.  If not this one...I may do WWW ...I'd never heard of it before so thanks for enlightening me

Hmmm...
HHH or WWW?
