Pre-race routine:

Up too early but gave me time to relax a bit with coffee but wouldn't ya know it... just as I'm about to leave I realize I forgot directions ha ha. wore hrm vs garmin due to h2o factor...bummer wanted the garmin
Event warmup:

walk from car to event.
set up consisted of laying bike down on grass and putting stuff out.
Swim
  • 05m 56s
  • 200 yards
  • 02m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

need work on ows. my breathing is just too freakin' convulsive!
What would you do differently?:

practice more ows
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

decided to not wear socks for bike(usually put them on) since I was so wet and a bit dizzy from swim.
What would you do differently?:

put shoes on while standing he he
Bike
  • 38m 26s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.73 mile/hr
Comments:

some dude nearly got clipped by a car - he had on freakin' headphones and I'm yelling car! Car!...duh. A few piles of 2,3,4 wide packs of people...really pisses me off when bikers hog the road like that ...makes passing harder and more dangerous. I think I could have gone harder on the bike but wanted to make sure i had some legs left for the run
What would you do differently?:

push 100%... screw the high hr ;)
Transition 2
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

doh... had to put on socks...I wear orthotics and knew they'd pinch my feet if no socks. so SAT down and then with all my run training i've been doing -- did not lace these sneakers with quick tie/bungie cords...and I had NOT untied the double knots...so I putzed around a bit on this transition.
What would you do differently?:

bungie cords...or at least untie my sneaks
Run
  • 18m 9s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

it was getting hot by the run. out and back on country road. i could have gone harder but was afraid i'd walk too much if my hr went too high. i did walk the water station at 1/2 point and poured some over my head. overall surprised at my pace so not as bad as i thought
What would you do differently?:

go faster...heck its only 2 miles
Post race
Warm down:

drank bottle of h2o and can of diet sprite...watched some other racers finish. saw an older guy finish and the crowd really cheered him on. love it!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

self imposed scaredy cat in my head ;)

Event comments:

great race for newbies. great volunteer support.
as i drove out, i saw a few stragglers coming in... and you know its a newbie race when you see two chicks on the run who decided to play with a barn kitten by the side of the road LOL. I mooed at a couple of cows but my competitive side would not allow me to stop to pet them. ;) LOL

Great race Sarah! I do not understand why people think it's ok to wear headphones on the bike. Keep up the good work!
