Overall Rank = 129/472
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 7/17
Pre-race routine:

Banana and gatorade 1 pack
Event warmup:

~100 yards swimming, light stretching
Swim
  • 17m 15s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

50 / 50 freestyle vs breast stroke
Not bad for a first try
What would you do differently?:

Practice bilateral breathing
Transition 1
  • 04m
Comments:

They did not officially measure transitions so my T1 is included in my bike, but I think it took me 4+ minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Figure out how to get shirt on. Either get a wet-suit and swim with shirt or get a shirt that is good for swimming in. The shirt was impossible to get on. I think I could have cut of 2+ minutes here.
Bike
  • 35m 55s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.71 mile/hr
Comments:

I wish they had measured T1 because I think I actually did better than my time shows on the bike.
Definitely could have pushed a bit harder.
What would you do differently?:

Aero bars. I kept passing aero bar guys on hills and then getting passed on flats by the same guy I had just passed.
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

This transition felt a lot faster than T1.
What would you do differently?:

Leave my shoes clipped in and run barefoot/socked.
Ride without gloves.
Run
  • 26m 57s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I could have pushed harder on the run. Especially on the flat 0.5 mile home stretch.
What would you do differently?:

Ran faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Watermelon, water, and stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Stamina on swim.
Not pushing harder on bike.
Mind on run.

Event comments:

This was my first tri. Loads of room for improvement. Race seemed well run with a lot of helpful volunteers.

Congratulations on becoming an official triathlete Dennis!  Those are some very respectable times you put up!  If you think you're going to continue with the sport, I would definitely recommend getting a wetsuit.  I can actually get you a really good deal on the Xterra wetsuits and with the discount, they have some for around $100.  Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you the promo code.  This should help you tremendously in the water and it sounds like it will cut down T1 as well.

Well congrats once again!  Keep it up!
