Total Time = 25m 49s
Overall Rank = 165/332
Age Group = 35-39 Male
Age Group Rank = 19/31
Pre-race routine:

Arrived early enough to get the number and do a half mile warm up.
Event warmup:

Fluid in, fluid out, and a few minute warm up at slow pace. Unfortunately, read the map wrong and ran the start instead of the finish, which would come back to bite me later.

Comments:

Started too fast. First mile in under 8 (7:40) - which is waay too much to have expected on an afternoon in July. Held it loosely together for mile 2 (8:26) but got hot on the final uphill and ended up crumping to a walk for a time. Mile 3 plus the last tenth posted at about 9:45.
What would you do differently?:

Need much better pacing plan for a 5k in the heat.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, gatorade, walking, stretching.

Event comments:

Friendly little 5k, no big frills but plenty of volunteers and even a water "stop" near milemarker 2. Fun. Hope to improve things for race #2 and #3 if my work schedule allows me to attend both.

Performance:
Well, the heat and my effort helped to demonstrate that my predicted max HR of 179 is incorrect. I hit 181 during mile #3.
Course: Down and back three cul-de-sacs (hence the name) then around the rest of a big circle in a subdivision. Slight long uphill near the end which I wasn't expecting.

One of three richmond road runner's club 5k's listed on the marathon training team schedule.  Unfortunately, I start a new job the same day as #2; and the first ever board meeting with the partners (of whom I hope to be one in 2 years) starts at the same time as #3.
