Tried the search button but it was playing up.

What does evryone think of bib shorts if you own them and train for cycling in them? Sort of like the pic below.

I just use the normal shorts, the bib ones are too expensive for my taste.  Besides,  I own no flair to put on the suspender part!

People always say bibs are the best...but I like to have the option of going for a quick run after my ride...so I prefer tri shorts whenever possible.

Tri shorts are not way near as comfortable comapred to bike shorts though...

Bibs on longer rides, 25+ miles...shorts on shorter rides and trainer indoor. Though that might change after my first ride in my new Desoto 400 mile bibs. The Desoto bibs are hands down the most comfortable pair of cycling anything I've worn.

Unless I am swimming before and/or running after riding, I wear bibs for everything.  I have a few pairs of bib shorts and a pair of bib tights and prefer not to ride in anything else.

If you have bib shorts do you ride them on the trainer indoors too?

If I'd known then - what I know, now....I'd never have bought cycling shorts/bibs.  I've got a pair of each that I've worn 3-4X ea. that may never get worn again.

I wear tri shorts, every time.

Tri shorts for everything from 20 mile to century rides. Never been a problem.

??     toss a shirt over the bibs and go for a run.

My beef with bib shorts is they make going #1 a slight hassle, and #2 a major one

On the trainer I wear what's clean and I grab first, whether shorts or bib

Most rides, it's tri shorts. Minimal padding is best. For longer rides, I like my new bibs. They stay in place better and I need less adjusting.

I'm a big fan of bib shorts for training. I like the Sugoi best but that could be because it's all I have right now...

depends who you ask...I prefer tri shorts.  I only wear bike shorts when my tri shorts need to be washed...and lets not get into the whole how many times you wear your shorts before washing thread again.

OK- this isn't at all what I was expecting.  Can ya'll explain yourselves.  I've got a few pair of cycling shorts that I wear, and I save my one pair of Orca tri shorts for races.  So- what's so great about bib-shorts?  and, why the shorts with less padding?

i.e. what are the benefits of these products?

Tri shorts always.

I have never worn bibs so maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

i used to wear tri shorts for everything, were comfortable, fit well, cheaper.

then i started riding more per week, and i very quickly switched to a good pair of bibs.

the benifits for me, they last longer, they are a lot more comfortable around the waist (not having a waist to them is awesome), they match my jersey, and i can ride a lot each day and not shred the shorts and my crotch.

i have a pair of specilazed bib shorts that i wear for almost all my training, along with a pair of both winter bib tights, and thermal 3/4 length ones for fall/spring weather.

I personally hate bib shorts. I know, lots of people will ride in nothing else -- fine with me. The shorts I've found most comfortable are the Performance Century shorts with the standard synthetic chamois.

The more padding there is, the more likely that something will cut off blood supply, causing numbness.

Bibs for all rides + 40 mi, whatever is clean for anything less. They are more comfortable around the waist and tend to keep the chamois in the right place better. I do wear my tri shorts when I'm planning a brick, but that's usually < 1/month. I'm a big fan of the Performance brand shorts too, used to wear the Century, but have stepped up to the Elite for the nicer chamois. When they're on sale you can get the shorts for < $40 and the bibs for <$60.
