Anyone doing this? I am going to sign up today.

If you are in the area, its a cute end-of-season race in September. It has rained the past two years, so this year HAS to be nice
Bike course is relatively flat (similar to NJST, maybe slightly hillier, but barely) and the run is also relatively flat ..mostly trails and jogging paths through Hightstown. The lake is pretty clean, again, very similar to NJST, maybe a tad murkier but not much. Its a nice race if you can fit it into the schedule.

Also: Bring the kids! There is a (rare) kids triathlon on Saturday. Its fun to watch!

I am registered and did this race last year.  It is nice setting for a race.  The bike course will be changed from last year due to a road closer.  Once around, instead of a 2 loop course.

I did the OWS at Peddie Lake tonight, great experience.  I don't swim often, so this a great oppurtunity to get some training in.  If you're in the area on Friday nights stop by and swim.

Tell me the bike loop will avoid cedarville road ? That was the only bad part of that course. Pot-hole heaven!

I am registered for this.  It's my first triathlon and I live here so it should be fun.

Cedarville Rd is closed due to repairs, this is why the change in route.  At the first turn you go right on Windsor Perrineville Rd, instead of left.  The route will go past the Silver Decoy Winery.  After that I don't remeber.

That's good news!

Only bad news is that I bet we end up going down Pville and either down Allens or all the way down to Windsor Road and loop back to Htown via Old York. Old York is a somewhat busy road, and that would put athletes on both sides at some point.

That being said, I woul rather have that then Cedarville

Hi All,

I'm the race director for the Hightstown Tri, yes Cedarville Road is closed, they were hoping to have it opened before the race (and have it repaved, but no such luck), someone took out a culvert with their car and it is delaying the project by a month or so, bummer, but at least next year it will be freshly paved!!

We are working on a new course now, please be patient as we have to get another township in on the action so it will take some work.  That being said, in an effort to do the "political" thing we won't be posting the new course until all parties agree.  We should have an answer this week or next, the new course, if approved, will be a single loop and actually nicer ride, I just rode it yesterday as part of a long 40 mile ride and think it's going to be great if we get it approve, fingers crossed!!!

Hope to see you all in Hightstown, we should have a lot of fun.  Even with the rain the last two years we've had a great turn out, so we may as well "guarantee" rain this year:-)!!!

Forgot, if you're interested in the Friday Night Swims in Peddie Lake, they are USAT sanctioned and start at 6:30pm.  Check out www.jerseyareamultisport.com to see if there are any issues (weather, water quality, tested weekly), we post the go/no go decision by 4pm every Friday.  You can also keep up at the Hightstown Trialthon Facebook Page, there's a link to if from www.hightstowntriathlon.org.

Hope to see you all on Friday Nights!  BTW, great Farmer's Market going on at the same time as the workout with live music!

I've done the race the 1st 2 years and hope to again this year though it's a busy time of year for me so I need to start my "begging" now.

The first Hightstown tri was my first tri.  I also raced last year and have to say that Darek and everybody do a fantastic job!  This race is perfect for beginners and veterans alike, it has a great energy and feel all the way through.  That being said, all we need is some decent weather!

About how many people register for this tri? Would a wetsuit be recommended (due to water temp, not really for boyancy)Thanks!

Looks like we had about 150 finishers last year (not sure how many registered/bailed/etc., if that matters). I would bet we have around 200 this year.

Most likely this will be wetsuit legal (but who knows given this summer..my god). Last year we were in the mid-60s if memory serves me okay. I would say a wetsuit will most likely be legal, but not necessary if you dont have one. I only consider a wetsuit necessary once it gets to the low-60s and the longer races. This is a pretty short swim at 400meters.

Nice race. Definitely hit it if you can fit it in the schedule.

Last year the air temp was cooler than the water (both in the 60's) so didn't use a suit but I'd say about 1/2 the folks did.

Funny enough, last year some people that didnt have a wetsuit were debating if the water was too cold, etc. Should they bail, etc. I reminded them that the "kids race" was the day before, and NONE of them had a wetsuit

New course is up. It is what I expected..shoot over on Perrineville, swing back around on Windsor Road to Sharon to Old York. Be advised, there are two NASTY potholes on Windsor between Allens and Sharon. If those aren't patched, you can be assured a few people flat there.

I am in!  I've gone to the OWS at Peddie Lake, so I have a comfort level with knowing what it is like.

How is the water in terms of clean/murky and warm/cold? I would guess clean and warm...but give us the heads up. I am hoping to hit one of these OWS prior to the race if I can just for a warmup, but it was fine last year. Hoping to get one last WS legal race in this year for speed.

Water has been very clean and warm this year but to be expected as not much rain to cool off or drag in the crap from the streets, etc.

Who is getting excited for this race??? Only two weeks away. I am excited to have a good (dry?) time at this race, and get on to the "off-season" (if there is such a thing).

Any preliminary ideas on Water Temp? I am assuming wetsuit legal, especially with this cooler weather upon us.

The OWS last week was a little chilly.  Hopefully it doesn't get any colder than that.

Oh, and if "excited" and "nervous" are the same thing, then I am getting excited.

Cool

Knock on wood: Forecast for next week looks very nice. Is the third year the charm for this race being dry???

Pre-Race report:

Swim: Water is clean, and chilly, not horrible though. Very good wetsuit water. I would guestimate the temp (at the dock) sub-70, maybe 68-ish.

Bike: I rode this course yesterday. Very nice course with a few exceptions. Overall, its a great blend of some very mild (fun) hills and its scenic. The conditions are pretty good; the road that takes you out (and brings back) is very smooth and fast. Where you make the right off of this road to make a loop (Perrineville) is also in good shape. Windsor and Sharon are a bit grainy due to those roads being older, but overall not bad, just a little slower. Be advised there are three GINORMOUS-ly deep and dangerous potholes on Windsor. My advice, once you go over the highway, stay to the middle of the road. They are on the RHS of the lane and they are right in a line. They are small in diameter (hard to detect until yo are on top of them), but DEEP.

My only real complaint is that main road (Old York) that takes you out and brings you back is smooth, but there is little shoulder (if any) and its a busy road. Its giong to be challenging with traffic with riders on both sides. And there are these annoying reflectors that you have to avoid as well. So be careful out there!!

Forecast for Sunday is now "showers".
