Just great.  I was excited about the Master Clydes competition for a while until I heard this news.  Laughing
Looks like we all just dropped a slot in the results.

First timer, signed up for aqua bike -(plantar facitis) First time in ow though, I'm ok with the dist in the pool. Is there a good place to pract some ow before this weekend. I have been practicing sighting every 25m , but I read that's not enough? Do you really need to sight every 6strokes, I think that would add 30mins for me...

It depends on how you do it.  With the right technique you actually do not lose any time sighting or at least not much.

I will try to describe how I do it, but others may have input...

every 8 or so strokes or least until you hit space, do the following...at you go to take your left arm stroke, keep your arm straight as you take the stroke.  This will act as a fulcrum and slightly lift you chest up high.  As you are pushing down, pick you head up straight up instead of sideways.  Exhale as you are doing it.  You only need to bring your chin to the surface. With your chest up and head looking forward, you can sight and take a breath at the same time.  You will only a second or two to sight, but that is all you need.   This is not a jerky motion, it is a smooth as your normal stroke (else it will slow you down).

Here is a video of Any Potts doing this approach:

Thanks captin, interesting vid. I'm going to give it a try this week in pract. He really is lifting up high to sight, But that water does look rough. I don't think I could keep a pace going if I had to lift up that much.

Andy is in the ocean with waves and up and down...you will be in a lake and not need to lift your head as much...

so shanks gives me this race plan which is designed to help me learn to control my bike in long course. im supposed to let most everyone go and try and catch them on the run. i already suck at swimming. this means it all comes down to the run for the master clydes. hold me off man!

Wrong Harvey...I heard from a little birdie that it's designed to make you learn how to race your own race.

But that's just what I heard.

IM focus Harvey...

I will make a deal with you.  If you can hold the average wattage you want to for Saturday for the IM distance AND run well then I will give you a donut and $10.

Oh..I like chocolate donuts (since you will be oweing me a donut and $10).  :P

I want in on this action, too...

$10 on Slayer to win the race w/his bike split. Sorry, buddy, there's no way in God's green earth you're dialing it back for 25mi in a race!

Yeah.  If Slayer races his race and ends up on the podium I don't think he should be buying donuts.  It's easy to say "you could've been faster if you had done X, Y, and Z", but he is the Slayer!
