Event warmup:

No real warmup, light stretching.
Swim
  • 15m 7s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt decent on the swim given the fact that I haven't been able to swim all year long. Definitely need to work on that this winter, will come back stronger next year.
What would you do differently?:

Ummm, I dunno, maybe swim once or twice before the race next year. :)
Transition 1
  • 02m 59s
Comments:

I need to work on riding and running with no socks. I like socks for the HIM distance but I probably don't need them for a sprint and not having to put them on wet feet would speed up my transition by a lot.
What would you do differently?:

Train with no socks.
Bike
  • 36m 53s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.22 mile/hr
Comments:

I have been training the last few months with my seat too low, it had slipped down and I hadn't noticed. I raised my seat to where it should be right before the race. As a result my calves were undertrained. I was pushing hard on the bike until my calves started to cramp on mile 8. After that I had to take it a little easier to keep from locking up my calves. I was around a 21-22mph average before the cramps started in. Also had to follow a slower rider in for the last half mile as there was no room to pass. Frustrating as I wanted a faster bike time, but I will be better next year.
What would you do differently?:

Train in the correct position. Also I have had more time in the saddle this year, but I need a lot more! Will be getting some decent trainer time in this winter.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Good transition time for me. Really glad I decided to put the Yanks on my shoes the night before the race.
What would you do differently?:

Had a problem with my Garmin running out of transition. Need to set it up correctly next time so I don't have to mess with it while trying to run out of transition.
Run
  • 30m 51s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Could have been better. Calves were still throwing fits for the first mile. Once they calmed down I got a little faster but my quads were shot from compensating on my pedal stroke so I wasn't getting my knees as high as I needed to. Also I was having a hard time getting my heart rate down, most likely due to overall lack of training. This whole getting married and taking 8 months off thing really doesn't help on race day. :)
What would you do differently?:

Run more, lots more. I still don't feel like a runner yet. I will be working hard on the run this winter, hopefully I will have better legs under me for next year.
Post race
Warm down:

Crossed the finish and went to watch for my dad and sister whom I talked into racing with me this year. It was fun to see them complete their first tri, they both did great!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall lack of training, lack of fitness and I am too heavy. I am looking at this race as more of a bench mark. I am going to be working hard this winter so we will see how much I can improve for next year.

Event comments:

An excellent race, I will definitely be back next year, might even bump it up to the olympic race next year. RD does a great job putting this race on.
