Subject: Running Shoes

I'm looking for a good running shoe.  One of my friends bought some Nike Free running shoes and another bought Pearl Izumi running shoes.  The Izumi's look normal but the Free's are lighter but they don't have much support.  I'm looking a descent pair of shoes around $100+/-.  I'm running in Asics right now but any suggestions?

Go to a reputable running store and have a reputable employee study your gait.  They'll recommend a shoe in your price range.

Just a word of caution: Minimalist shoes take months to adapt to. Since "Born to Run" came out more and more runners are opting for the "less is more" approach AND they tend to get side-lined pretty quickly. Even for a neutral runner, the Nike Free will take weeks to get used to. Furthermore, a minimalist shoe will drastically change your gait (shorter strides to avoid a heel strike) and takes some time to get used to.

If you are a neutral runner I'd recommend Mizuno Wave Rider 13's. If you need a stability shoe, I'd recommend the Brook's Adrenaline. Just my two cents.

Good luck!

X2 on going to a running store and being fitted for the proper shoe!  The wrong type of shoe can cause major issues!

This is good advise but I love my Brooks Launch.  They are great!

Highly highly recommend going to a real run or tri store and have someone qualified to tell you what kind of shoe you should be using for your gait type. A year ago, I snapped the ligament under my arch and cracked my ankle bone in half. Since then, I've been hyper sensative about my running shoes. Right now I'm using the Power Step orthotic with Brooks Ravvena. They have been a wonderful combination for me. Finding someone qualified to properly critique your gait and select the proper shoe could mean the difference of years of healthy feet and joints ahead. Get the wrong shoe for your gait and you'll pay the price in the future.

I love New Balance 758's for me.  One piece of advice if you are not going to a running store, be sure not to get something too snug.  I wear a 10.5 but for runs of 10 miles or more, I have to go up to an 11 or risk black toe.  10 miles seems to be the point where my feet expand too much for my normal size.

Thanks for the input.  There is a Fit To Run store close by and I will check it out.  Thanks
