Hey everyone, while I am not a new BTer or new to triathlons (this is my second year of being a full time triathlete with an endurance focus), I am looking for some folks to train with (mostly for long rides and maybe some OWS). I live in Sewanee, TN, which is about 45 minutes from Chattanooga. Anyone out there in the Chat tri club or near me or know of any near group rides? When do the clubs in Chat ride?

matt_thatsme - 2012-01-01 8:01 PM Knoxville/Farragut here.  I just joined BT today and I am totally new to the triathlon scene.  I am targeting the Panther Creek Xterra event, but have a long way to go.  I just started riding mountain bike and my swim skills are less than stellar.  Can any Knoxville folks recommend a swim coach?

You can hook up with the guys at Fleet Feet Knoxville (right on the outskirts of Turkey Creek) They are a good group and do group swims at the Rush in Farragut on Tue/Fri mornings I believe.

The Rush in West Knoxville also has a masters group on Tue/Thur mornings I believe.

Good to have some new TN folks on BT. Look forward to some good chats. I'm in Memphis, so nothing good to share for you East-siders.

Who is signed up for Rev3 Knoxville this Year? I registered for the "half-full" (i.e the half ironman) distance and am curious about the course. Anyone do this before? Where is the swim and what are the conditions like? Is it wet suit legal? what about the bike and run course? Hilly, flat, good road conditions?

I've done Rev3 every year, and I intend to do it again this year (albeit the oly)

The swim is in the TN river (you go in at Calhoun's dock on Neyland dr.)  It's a straight course, up the river to a turn bouy, then back down (past where you go in) and exit at the UT Rowing house dock. It is generally cold but calm, 100% chance it's wetsuit legal.

The bike course is on Knoxville back roads... that is to say, rough and patchy. I sat on the side of the road last year at the halfway point because of glass in the road. It's also a challenging bike... not much of East TN is flat. Only one climb is a real extended challenge though.

The run starts off pretty flat but about halfway gets back into the foothills, so don't expect any PR's on it. It's a great, tough course. Good Luck!

I'm *new* to TN. I'll be living in Cleveland from June 15th. Also *new* to USA because I'm British! Totally *new* to triathlon and endurance and was hoping there were any BT members in the Cleveland area just to train with.
I'm trying to get a bike, find decent running space and a pool just to do  basic training. My fiance is supportive but it's not really her thing ( Except the swimming ) But she talks of a "Greenway" around the town to do running and cycling.
Chatanooga is about 25 miles away ( I think ) and I need a little bit of practice before I drive anywhere around the State.
Triathlon isn't easy to start with! LOL

Welcome to Tennessee and the US! We have some great riding in east TN (I am in the Johnson City area, in the northeast corner of the state...about 4 hours from Chatty) and the Chattanooga area is great for all types of riding and tri. The Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon is in July, and it's a huge oly distance race.

I know that there's a tri club in your area, so I'd suggest you check them out for training opportunities. http://chattanoogatriathlonclub.org/  Goodluck!

Hey all!

More Farragut/Knoxville here!  My husband and I just got bikes this past weekend and I've signed up with Fleet Feet to train for the "Storm the Fort" Olympic in late August.  I'd totally recommend FF for swimming instruction, they're really good at incorporating all levels of swimmers into their training program!

I'm really hoping to build up my biking and running endurance enough to do the Rev3 Half next year. I'm jumping right in and doing my first sprint this weekend at "Smokin' the Water," so wish me luck!

Fellow East Nasty checking-in as well.  Live in Franklin, but travel to Nashville frequently for runs and races.

Where is this group that meets around mid-town for some tri-motivation?

I'm a month away from moving to the Memphis area. Looking forward to it. Now that I have you here....I've been shopping around for a new ride, looking at a P3. Do any of you Memphis area folks know of a shop with any in stock. I figured I would ask what you know before I start emailing the different shops. Not worried about the year 2010-13 is fine. Reason I ask is my shop here has a couple and the deals are okay, but it would better for me to pick one up where I'll be living. Thanks, Chris

Another TN newbie here. From the southeast corner of the state. My goal is to improve my fitness before the big 50 later this year. Have set myself a goal of the Cedars of Lebanon for my first tri. Has anyone participated in that event before? Is it a good beginners race?

Yes. It is about as beginner friendly as you can get. Great race.

Andrew, great to hear your feedback on Cedars of Lebanon. Any other suggestions for other good Beginner tris in the area? Would like to do a few sprints and maybe if all goes well an Olympic distance by end of season.
Thanks!

I would probably add Music City Tri & Clarksville Tri on the sprint list. Both of them are moderately challenging but very well run events.

I don't know how you feel about a bit of travel, but I did the Riverbluff Sprint up in Ashland City last year. It was a pretty well run event. Not sure about this year, but last year they ran a Sprint, Oly and Half. The bike had some rolling hills that killed this AR farmland flatlander and the run was pretty flat until the turnaround (short, fairly steep downhill, around a corner then turn around and climb back out)

Good afternoon! I'm new to the triathlon world, and am looking for any advice that I can get. Any places for good information I should look? I have a goal of completing my childhood dream of a IM 140 in three years, and my first IM in Augusta in 2018. Also, I could use advice on gear. I have a bike, but would need to know where to look for used wet suits or tri suits. Any help is greatly greatly appreciated.
