Subject: How does your cycling shoe size compare to your running shoe size
I'm in the market for some tri cycling shoes and have read a lot about how cycling shoes should have a very snug fit.  And it's not uncommon for your cycling shoe to be 1-2 full sizes smaller than your everyday or running shoes.

So how about it BT...what's your cycling shoe size compared to your running shoe size.  I assume if you go sockless, that may be a .5 size difference.

I wear a size 9 running shoe...rarely I'll find a 8.5 that gives me enough toe room.  My first road cycling shoes were specialized size 42...but I think I bought too big (even with socks).  I just tried on some shimano tri shoes (TR-51) and I size 40 (size 7-7.5 US equivalent) fit pretty snug sockless.

I've got Mizuno running shoes, size 9.5.

My Specialized MTB shoes (wear on my road bike) are a 10.

Not sure if that helps or not, but that's what I've got.

Cycling shoes (SIDI in Mega width) are 43.5. Running shoes are MEN'S 9-10 depending on width. Currently in Asics 9.5 2E.

I think a lot of sizing is foot shape/width dependent ... of course the brands vary wildly, too.

Personally I would ignore that advise on snug shoes.  I learnt that too and unlearnt it quickly.  Your feet act the same on a bike and will expand and swell.  So, if you start with snug shoes just thing of how lovely they will feel after a few hours on the bike.  Only shoes I buy snug now are my rock climbing shoes.

I wear men's 7.5 running shoes, and men's 40s in bike shoes. If you wear 9 running shoe I can't imagine you wearing same size bike shoe I do.

Having to tight bike shoes is a recipe for hot spots and lots of foot discomfort on longer or warmer rides.

My advice is go later in the day or evening to the biggest bike shop around you that carries lots of brands of bike shoes and try a bunch on with different thickness of socks or without. Fit is so variable by your foot shape and how the shoes are designed.

I got custom cycling orthotics and it changed how my bike shoes fit.

It seems to vary a lot across manufacturers.  I wear a 10.5 running shoe (Asics) and a 45 Shimano for the bike.  But according to the size chart for Specialized shoes, I think I would take a 42 or 43?  I haven't actually tried one on to know but if you have any way of actually trying a particular brand for size, I would strongly recommend it and don't assume it will be the same for another brand.

It's not so much that your cycling shoes should be a size or two smaller than your street shoes but that your running shoes should be a half to a full size bigger  than your street shoes.

Size 10 running shoes, size 9 street shoes, and size 43 (US 9) cycling shoes.

Running shoes = 14
Dress shoes = 13
Road Bike shoes = 48 (~13) - always wear socks with these
Tri Bike shoes = 47 (~12) - never wear socks with these

The critical aspect of fitting a bike shoe is that your foot doesn't move around inside them and you don't have any heel slip.

I wear Asics and Brooks running shoes, size 14.

My Bontrager HiLo tri shoes are size 46.

I go sockless always on the bike, mostly in my running shoes as well for training.  Always have gone sockless during races.

Run shoe = Size 10

Bike Shoe = Size 9 1/2

I like my cycling shoes to be tight.  I've tried a 10 on my most recent shoe and regretted it...

Running shoes 11 (US)

Cycling shoes- consistently 45 Sidi or Shimano.  In my experience other companies' cycling shoes can vary +/- full size depending on the shoe style.

I've got a wide foot and usualy need to go at least a size bigger with my bike shoes for a comfortable fit.  I've also seen a big difference beween brands, for example Addidas tend to run narrow.

This is me too, 10 in women's my cycling shoes are 43, I like them a little roomy so my feet don't fall asleep or get too hot, I can move my toes around.

I don't have much choice, but I'd wear the same size if I could. My running shoes are usually 5.5 and my cycling shoes are 36, which I think is equivalent to a 6. I've never found size 35 cycling shoes, so I wear a 36.

ETA: I always wear socks in both though (unless I forget them. )
