I am glad this race popped up on the schedule.  I am really looking forward to my first ocean swim...I should probably get out into the ocean before race day though.  The bike course should be fast!!!

Good luck with the Tri! I heard about this race here on BT but I declined to enter it due to the ocean swim. I choked pretty badly on the swim for my first Tri (1/2m lake swim) a week ago so the ocean swim is not something I'm ready for.

Let us know how you do.

I took this race off of my schedule and will not be doing it this year.  It was a tough choice, but my wife is currently unemployed and money is getting tight.  If others are doing it I would like to hear how it goes since it will be on my list of races for next year.

Did this race last year - one of the best sprints I have done...  it is a must do for me every year - I hear they are limiting the field for 2011...

If I am around, I'll most likely sign up for this as well.

I may try to get this in as the last of the year, though I'm doing the Pumkinman sprint the week before.  Something about an ocean swim in late Sept. intrigues me.

I did this race last year and the ocean swim wasn't bad at all.  It was a decent race overall.  Won't be doing it this year.  Doing the Pumpkinman half this year.

Warren, have you done the Pumpkinman sprint before?  Hopefully it will be completetly repaved by this year's race.  It is a nightmare in some spots.

I did the half last year, but never the sprint.  I've heard the sprint course is rough.  I actually just found out that I have a wedding to attend that weekend anyway, so I've tentatively switched to either Wallis Sands or Maniac.

Is this a big event? Does it sell out quickly? I keep getting tempted to officially enter but I think conservatively I should wait until I complete my first tri, in case for some reason I find out it's not for me. At the same time, I don't want it to sell out and miss my chance. Thoughts?

You should have lots of time.  I did it 2 years ago and signed up the night before.  Looking at their facebook page, it looks like there were still slots avail on Aug 2th last year.  But if you sign up early you may save money and may help you stay focused and motivated.  Good luck!

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY SILLY!!!!!  You're gonna love it and have to do more.  Wallis Sands is a great race and the organizers are top shelf.  Sign up and we'll hook you up with a room for the night. :-)

I'm thinking this will be my first tri.  I just started getting out there and getting my paces to see where I'm at.  12 weeks should give me enough time to be where I want to be.  Looking forward to it.

If you're local, there's a group that swims at Wallis Sands Beach every Wednesday at 5:30 pm. It's a great way to get comfortable in the water where the race occurs.

That sounds pretty good.  I haven't made it for an OWS yet, just some pool work, hoping I can do 2x per week leading up for the next 3 months.  First time should be this Sunday.  It'd be nice to get in there today to cool off.

Your response made me lol. I did my first tri on Saturday July 14th and I'm already thinking about the next, which naturally leads me to the Wallis Sands Sprint. I'm teetering on the edge of registering. TEETERING! Price goes up August 1st so I can't wait too long. Don't know what I'm waiting for. Argh!

I"m thinking about signing up as well. THis is my first season of tri, and I'm good with lake swimming but the ocean scares me (I have a GREAT respect for the power of the sea)  I'm familiar with Wallis sands beach but I'm not really up on how calm/rough it tend to be right there.  For anyone who swims there regularly, what is your impression/been your experience? And what is the temp like in late Sept?? I was at Seabrook beach two weeks ago and it was brutally cold!

Just signed up for this today.  It will be my first unless I want to tackle something before then, which I am kind of itching to do.

Usually, it is quite nice there.  Generally pretty flat with some occasional rollers, but sometimes the swell kicks up and it can get choppy.  Temp-wise, it varies, but has been pretty warm (for NH) lately.  You definitely want a wetsuit, and most likely a full suit.  I've done the race both years, and the water was comfortable and pretty flat.

One more month to go! I'm already wondering what I've gotten myself into. I hope I can meet some of you, maybe the day before for a practice swim or dinner, or after the event for some food?

I'll probably be around the day before for a bike or swim and a meal.  I live about 30 minutes from there.  This will be my first tri so I was going to go check out the route this weekend or next, maybe do the bike route to see what it's like.

Looks like the weather Sunday morning isn't that great, showers and 60*.  Should make it a little more interesting.

Rain I don't mind, temperature I like on the cool side. It's the wind that I'm concerned about. Might make for a choppy swim, plus a windy ride and run on the coast!
