Hi New Friends,

I am doing my first tri in August.  What do I wear for a tri?  It is outdoor pool swimming.  Do I get a tri suit?  Not sure what to wear!

Thanks,

Hi all, I am just starting the process to get going on my first triathlon. Very nervous, but excited. I have two young children and I want them to see their mommy do this!! Starting today with my first bike/swim. Have no idea what I am doing so we shall see how this turns out.

Hello,

This is the first time I train for a  triathlon.  I am a good runner and swimmer but I will have to get used to including bicycling in my work outs.  This will be a fun new way to stay in shape.  I train and compete horses in endurance races so I figured that I should do the same!

Just about 4 weeks in.  Took me a bit to work out my exercise plan.  Started just wanting to cross train for my running and now I'm definitely going to do a try.  Hoping to do a sprint in November.

Love the site and the plans.  Good luck to all!

I started running this summer and was bored and came across an article on Triathlons. I did some research and thought I could do this. I signed up for a "Try A Tri" and trained all spring. I pretty much started as a couch potato! I ran only 5k, could barely swim 2 lenghths of the pool and biking was not my thing. Once I started training and noticed that I was slowing improving and  I was feeling awesome, I was starting to love it!

This summer I did 2 Try A Tri's and last weekend I did a Sprint Duathlon. I am hooked and loving it. I am looking forward to training all through the winter and spring and race in a Sprint Tri.

Good luck to all with the training!

Hi there. I'm new here. Starting the 20 week 3x sprint plan later this week. Later only because I'm traveling for work until Wednesday. I have a question: where does strength training and yoga/Pilates fit into training plans? Laura

For strength, yoga, wherever it fits into your schedule most easily.  Though on strength training: depending on your program, you don't want your strength training program trashing your muscles and leaving them sore for a swim or run sessions the next day or two.  If that's the case, it's best to back off of the intensity/weights of the strength program so your muscles aren't sore to actually do the tri training.

Good luck starting and welcome.

Hi I'm new to this site and to triathlons   I can't wait to hear what everyone else is doing and talk to others of like mindness.  Good luck as we gear up to training.  My race is in June so I have a bit to wait but can't wait to start the training.  I run 2x's a week, bike 2x's a week and swim once a week for now.  I'm just working on technique for now and then when training time comes I'll be able to work on speed and stuff.  So I'm glad I found this site.  For the training program I was going to use was 4 times a week swim and that was a bit to much for me to drive to the pool that often.  So this program is much more do able.  Plus I don't change my routine, I always had 2 days rest and wanted to keep that.  So all I have to do is change the days around and still have my mondays and fridays off which works far better for my family life too!  So I'm super pleased with this!

Can't wait to get to know more ppl.  Talk to you soon!

Hi Folks!  New (again) to BT and following a real, long-term plan this time around.  I hope starting a program BEFORE the holidays will work out better for me than so many New Year's resolutions in the past!

Hi!  My name is Jae.  I have always wanted to do a Triatholon.  There is one nearby in May 2013 that looks perfect.  I recently did 3 5 K's and had a blast.  I am encouraged to do this but also scared to death and not sure how to start.  Any help would be appreciated!

Good afternoon everyone.

My name is Tyson. I am 37 and in good shape. However, I am a complete newbie to this event. I have little experience in any of the disciplines as far as endurance and technique are concerned. I am completely terrified and overwhelmed.

Not sure how to go about this. I will be starting the 2x balanced program this coming Monday. I plan on entering a sprint in Calgary in June. This is just a personal goal - the competition being myself. It is a cancer fundraiser so i figure it a good way to reach my first goal by entering & make a community contribution at the same time.

My knowledge of techniques required, equipment needed, changing a bike tire, nutrition, etc..is slim to none.

I'm in it to succeed. I figured joining a site like this can provide the support and answers i will be needing often.

Thank you for being here.

Tyson Henderson

Hi Jessica, After speaking to a customer who had just completed his 1st triathlon, I realized that I had always exercised without a purpose. A lot of people I have spoken to have either run the Comrades, cycled the Argus, or now completed a triathlon.N ow at the age of 46 this year, I have decided to train for and complete a triathlon this year. I need something to focus on and a discipline which is good for my health. So here I am 3 weeks into training looking for a good program and mentor to help me with a training program, and advice on kit I need to purchase.I hope you assist me!!

Hey everyone!!! My husband and two friends and myself have just started the 20 week 3 times balanced program. We are racing the end of August. We're really excited, but were all first time sprint triathletes, who work full time. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! I love this site! There seems to be a lot of great tools!

Hi! I'm Melissa. Came across this site after contemplating a sprint triathlon coming up August 31, so I've got about 3 1/2 months left to train.  Have been in the gym pretty regular for the last 3-4 weeks. Have pretty much been a couch potato for a cpl years now & think the triathlon will be a good motivator & goal rather than just, once again, saying "I'm on a diet" & trying to lose weight.  Have never really been a runner & plan to take some swim lessons just to get some good pointers on form, etc.

Since my fiancé has told most ppl we know, I guess I'm locked in or look like a loser So being a TOTAL beginner to triathlons I welcome any advice from everyone!!

Thnx!!

Welcome to the world of Tri, careful it's super addictive!   my two Bob's worth,  when i started out a while back i just had tri-shorts and a tri top for the first few seasons.  Just don't get anything loose (or use cycle shorts!) which will to chafe and try it out a few times prior to race time to make sure there's no surprises on the day which could spoil your day. once I realised I'm doing this always then I went and got hold of a trisuit which for me was the icing on the cake.

Good luck!

Hi, I'm Rob Faith and I'm going to use the 16 week 2X Balanced Sprint plan to train for my first Triathlon this summer, June 28th City of Lakes Triathlon in Twin Lakes at Santa Rosa, New Mexico. I may do a few little local sprint tri's here in Albuquerque/Rio Rancho as well, but really enjoy open water swimming more than pool laps. I have a military fitness background but haven't been a competitive athlete for years. I want to get more fit, faster, stronger, and skinnier. Good luck with your seasons!
