Pre-race routine:

First race that I wasn't able to pick up my race packet the day before. Got up at 4:10, had toast with Nutella and peanut butter and a glass of milk. On the road by 4:45, arrived at race by 5:30. Line for pick-up was long and slow.
Event warmup:

It's FLORIDA, I set up transition and walked to the beach, that's as much of a warm-up as one needs. Did swim a little right before my wave was called to the starting area.
Swim
  • 08m 17s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had goggles kicked off in the first 25 yards. Had someone try to swim over me before the 50 yd mark. Very rough swim, thought about getting to the outside and taking it easy. Glad I didn't.
What would you do differently?:

Don't really know, had a good line, wide of the first bouy, and still had problems. Learn to swim faster, I guess.
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

Came out of the water and started passing people, felt great. At that point I figured I should push hard and go for the win. One of my best T1's of the season.
What would you do differently?:

Tri specific shoes, that's it.
Bike
  • 26m 59s
  • 10 miles
  • 22.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Great bike ride today. Got passed right at the start by another Clyde, but kept him in sight and passed him with 2 miles to go. Thought I might get a penalty for crossing the yellow line to pass a group that was taking up the ENTIRE lane, but maybe the official was writing down their numbers.
What would you do differently?:

Tri shoes and aero helmet.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Got squeezed on the rack when I got back to T2. Had to slide over a bike to re-rack my bike. Didn't get upset, just took a few seconds to make sure no bikes were scratched. Took a few extra seconds to with off my feet.
What would you do differently?:

Douse myself with the extra water bottle I froze the night before. Forgot to use the cold water, duh!
Run
  • 27m 9s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a really good run. Had another runner, also named Chris, catch up to me about a half mile in and we stayed together for most of the run. It was nice having someone to pace with. Also helped with drafting on the way back.
What would you do differently?:

Not much other than a quick soak before leaving T2.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked out of finish chute right to the massage booth.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough time in the pool.

Event comments:

Could have used a water station in the way in from the swim. Needed more people handing out cups on the run. Both station only had 2 people and if there was a crowd, it was either stop or skip it.

Course: Out of T2 to beach, some soft sand but mostly hard packed sand and shell. Turn around was just north of the Fort then returned on the asphalt trail. Slight head wind on the return actually felt good. Approach to finish was goofy. They took us back to the service road then several quick turns right before the finish chute. No real chance to see the end and go for it.
