The nights are supposed to cool off this week, temps in the 50's. That should help drop the lake temperature a bit before next weekend. I think wetsuits will be allowed.

Has anyone ridden the bike course or been out on the run course? Flat? Hills? I had hoped to get out there and ride the course a few weeks ago but never made it. Hoping to at least drive it on Saturday.

It's pretty much a rolling course with one halfway decent hill, not too long, where they handed up water bottles last year. You can hold a pretty good pace on this course. I thought it was one of the better ones around. especially for an Oly distance!

Well after Timberman yesterday I am still debating whether to race next weekend or not... I am not feeling too tired or sored but I am not sure if it will be a good idea. Nevertheless I will volunteer for the race so I can FINALLY get to meet many of you

BTW, I looked yesterday for BTers, Balloons, etc and I couldn't find anyone

Wish I had registered early and not planned a bike tour of nantucket over the same weekend. The CC is a great race from all I've heard and I love the Oly dist, so I'm pretty bummed that I may not have another chance to race it before this fall...lesson to all: register early, especially for races in MA because they fill quickly!

Hey Sunny....welcome to BT! There's plenty of us New Englanders here, I'm sure we'll get to meet you at an event one of these days.

Anyway, just thought I'd toss out the welcome, seeing as you snuck in the back door!

Just wondering if it still looks like we'll be able to wear the wetsuits? Like Max mentioned above, the cooler temps this week "should help drop the lake temperature" but you know how the forecasts go.

Thanks for the welcome, max. I do hope to see some of you BT'ers out at the races that still remain in the MA-USAT racing season...

As for wetsuits, I'd bring it and plan to wear it because it's *highly* unlikely that the water temp will be >78F at the race. Evening temps now are in the high 50s or low 60s, so the water couldn't be above the mid-70s, at least that's the way it seems to me.

Good luck to all the racers this weekend, -Sunny

I'm bringing my wetsuit. The Winnipesaukee temp was 72 on Sunday, so with the cooler nights, I'm pretty sure the water temp at Cranberry won't be above 78. Especially in the early morning when it tends to be a bit cooler than late in the day when the sun has been beating down on it for 10 hours.

Okay, another question for those of you that have done this race before:

Are there mile-markers on the run? Just wondering as I'm really going to need to pace myself on this one so I'd like to know my mile-splits.

Thanks and I'm getting STOKED for this race! :D

Yes, they had mile markers last year. If I remember, the run was a 50/50 mix of sun and shade, not too hilly, through some scenic neighborhood and farmland area. I think it's a counter-clockwise rectangle.

So far the weather is looking good, not that the forcasts are all that reliable. Looks like low 80's and partial sun so far. Lets cross those fingers.

You guys get this email?

  • .....
  • The water Temperature was 79 degrees this morning at 7 am. It needs to be 78 or less for wet suits to be allowed. If it is above 78 degrees race morning, you will have the option of wearing a wet suit, but you will not receive an age group ranking, or points toward USAT ranking. You will receive times, and splits.

    4. It will be hot. There will be lots of water, and Gatorade. Please be ready for any conditions.

    5. Here are the waves:
    5 minutes between Waves

    1. 8:00 am Men 30-34, Elite Men, and Elite Women
    2. 8:05 am Men 16-29, Clydesdales
    3. 8:10 am Men 35-40
    4. 8:15 am Men 40-49
    5. 8:20 am Men over 50, All Relays
    6. 8:25 am Women 16-34, Athenas

Where will everyone meet? Should we pick a place to meet if it works before the tri and again after at BBQ time? Any suggestions where from those who have been there?

I'm volunteering not racing....I will be there early on Sunday. I'm not sure what I'll do, I hope to help with registration and early stuff and then be free to cheer everyone on.

Do you guys know your numbers yet? If not could you post your full name, so I can try to find you. If you include what you will be wearing...orange tri top or something, and an estimate time if you want to share...easier to look for you at the finish.

I want to cheer for all of you!!

    Kathy

Kathy, I may try and bring a sign similar to the one I had at the Danskin tri. It's about a 30" x 40" size I would guess. If I can make it tomorrow and take a quick picture of it, I'll post it here. I'll mount it to a wooden stake and bring it along, and perhaps we can "zip tie" it to a fence or something.

Tentatively I'll be in my black Tyr 1-piece tri-suit, and I've got a sleeveless Ironman wetsuit. Plus you can look for the Ironman tattoo on my left bicep (right below the mermaid). I'm also the guy with very little hair!

OK, here's the BT sign, so if you all look for that, maybe we can find a place to meet up.

I'll bring a pen, and it would be cool if you can autograph it next to your BT name! If anyone else shows up, I'll bring along the markers and we can add you to the sign!
