Why bike drop the day before?  It is college football days in the south so a lot of will be out doing that?  I also noticed only I can drop my bike off.

I agree kindof a pain-1st year I did this it wasnt required then 2 yrs ago it all started.
Pretty painless, real quick, and no reason to stick around.
I have noticed that it does save time on race day. people spend more time IN transition than running all over it and the other people.
Does sell out every year
This is my inaugural race!!! This is where it all began for me!
Enjoy!

Fearful I will be out of town on Saturday.  Does the person dropping bike have to show ID?

If I'm remembering correctly, you get a wristband at packet pick-up and that number has to match the number on the bike. I agree it is a PITA but it makes race morning so much easier! I love this race and the bike course. I'd be doing it this year if we weren't leaving to go out of town that same morning.

I drove all the way up to LLI to drop my bike on Saturday last year, but noticed hundreds of people checking in with their bikes on Sunday morning.  So, this year I'm going to just bring my bike Sunday morning.  I know they said the bike check-in on Saturday is mandatory, but it seems a bit silly when half the racers ignore it.

My 2 cents.

I guess I will risk it and show up with a bike.  The worst thing that can happen is being refused entrance

Another thought is what if they don't let you race? Are you willing to break that rule just because taking your bike is kind of a PITA? There's no packet pick up the day of the race so you won't have your numbers or your swim cap. And if you're there on Saturday anyway, why not just take your bike?

FWIW, I did the race last year (and Iron Girl at the same venue) and I didn't see any athletes, who were racing, with their bike. The only bikes I saw were people riding around as spectators.

Not an issue with it being a PITA, I have a previous commitment in another state so may not be in town between 12 and 6 on saturday.  I only live 20 mins from the drop off, so I would LOVE to do it, may just not possible.  I guess I will have to wait and see.

Two things...

1.  my suggestion would be to call the race director...his name is escaping me right now.  Anyway, he is very nice and understanding.  Explain your situation and ask to be able to check in on race day.  Provided he only gets a few requests I think he'd allow it.  That said, if many people try to take advantage of this I'm also sure he'd be just as willing to get strict about the Saturday drop off.

2.  I've done several Georgia multisport races, this is the only one I've done that requires a bike drop off the day before.  He started this policy right around the same time that ownership of Lake Lanier Islands changed.  I've always suspected that Lake Lanier Islands somewhat forced his hand on this to encourage folks to spend the night at the hotel.

His name is Jim Rainey. IMO, they're a top race organization. (and I have the same suspicions about the islands and the lodge) When I called about a race transfer for Iron Girl he called me personally and was very nice.
