Total Time = 2h 20m 54s
Overall Rank = 41/636
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/33
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:15 - on the road by 5:45. Arrived at 6:45 and setup transition.
Event warmup:

Very short jog around parking lots
Swim
  • 26m 15s
  • 1584 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Overall, I'm pleased with my swim. My goal time was 25-26 min, and I was just over that. I had never swam this distance before - the most was 1400 yards in practice. Got a good rhythm going. I had some issues with sighting and was drifting right a bit. Sighting on the 2nd part of the swim was into the sun and a little difficult to see.
What would you do differently?:

Swimming is my main weakness. I'm doing masters classes over the winter, so my swim times should improve for next season.
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

Overall, a decent transition. I could have probably gone a bit faster.
What would you do differently?:

A bit more practice
Bike
  • 1h 07m 29s
  • 26.3 miles
  • 23.38 mile/hr
Comments:

Kept the HR between 155 and 165 and felt good throughout the ride. Didn't get passed by anyone and passed many people from my wave and waves ahead of me.
What would you do differently?:

More bike training, work on hills and speed work.
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

Took a quick drink, grabbed my belt, hat and watch and ran out. Good transition overall.
Run
  • 43m 50s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Was aiming for around 42:30, but I just felt that a 7:00 pace was good to start with. Never could really get it down to around 6:50 pace that I wanted.
What would you do differently?:

Will my body to go a bit faster. I need to get my weekly run mileage up to the 30's instead of the 20's - that will help.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a few drinks, cliff bars, and hung out with my new tri team.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. More training ='s better times.

Event comments:

There were some timing issues, and we had to wait about an hour longer than expected for the awards ceremony.

Awesome race Nate!  I am extremely impressed!

When we get the swim figured out over the winter, you are going to be ready to dominate next year.

Your bike split was awesome!  You beat me there so I'm certainly not going to try to give you any pointers there.  Smile

That is a great run split as well.  We're going to have to meet up soon and take a look at your form.  I bet we can make a few adjustments that will help get you faster.

The bottom line is you looked great in that NEMS uniform.  You're a great guy and we're really happy to have you on the team.  Keep up all the great work and congrats on a job well done!

Great work Nate.  Great swim for only having done a 1,400 prior to the race.  Hell of a bike split and a really strong run split too.  Tinted goggles may be a wise investment for these 85 degree sunny days!  Great to have you aboard.  We'll have to get some training in soon.  Best of luck in the half marathon.

Nice job and congrats on the hardware.  Looks like you went with the wetsuit.  It was still a bit too warm for me.  Very impressive for not having swam that distance before.
