FlyBoy172 - 2010-11-17 5:28 AM 1 pound down last week.

I was down a pound as well. Perhaps we are balancing out the planet's rotational forces. We can only lose the same weight as each other or we could send the planet into some crazy spin....

I tell you what, I'll commit to drop four pounds this week so you can too. That way we will keep everything in balance.

Sound okay to you   Wink

Last week was close to perfect, held my diet, lost some weight. Still work out to little though.

Had a friendly bet here about losing 4 lbs this week, and i managed 2,2Kg (4,85lbs).

All in all a good week.

Total weight lost since sept 1 = 12,8Kg (28,2Lbs)

That's 0,34lbs/day. If i keep this up the rest of the year, i will have lost a total of 41.5 lbs by end of year. That would be great, but my initial goal was 47 lbs down by end of year. Time to increase the pace perhaps. :-)

Flyboy - awesome work you're doing!  30 pounds is a great accomplishment... you've already lost about 10% of your body weight since you started this in September.  Just keep on doing what you're doing... whether or not you hit that Christmas goal, you're headed in exactly the right direction.  Stay strong during the holidays!

I hope you guys have met your goals over the past couple of weeks.  When I started back on my journey several weeks ago I was in the 280s and my goal was to hit something in the 250s before we went on vacation the week of Thanksgiving -- even it was 259.99999.  I made it!  I actually hit 256 on Thursday before leaving on Sunday.  Our vacation was at Disney, so staying in the 250s was not one of my goals.  Another note..I had registered for a 5k for the Sat after returning home on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.  In other words, the 5k was yesterday (Dec 4).  I knew it was not the best situation to be running a 5k the weekend after returning from Disney and I have only been running for about 6 weeks -- I was not quite able to complet a mile when I started back to running.  I ran once while on vacation (the best run to date at the time!).  Then I got really sick last week...no solid food all day Tuesday and finally some soup Wed night and again Thursday night.  Finally ate a sandwich on Fri.  I had pretty much given on any kind of success on Sat in the run.  In fact, then only reason I was still going to do it was because I made a deal with some colleagues that we would all do it together -- so I could not back out.  I think they call that support and accountability!  Any way, my goal was to complete in under 40.  I am pleased to say I met and exceeded my goal -- 37:23.  I did walk some, but was able to run all but about 4 mins.  Way better than I thought I was going to be able to do.  It is not as good my last 5k time of 3:29 ( a min/mile time and no walking), but it is a start back to the right track.  I only realized a net gain of 4 lbs while not running or following any kind of "good" eating plan for 2 weeks.

Just thought I'd share a little good news -- something that is hard to do for me.  Especially when being happy about a 37:23 -- that is actually a terrible time, but I am trying to learn that it is an example of something that is really good for me "right now" and to use it to move up to the next level.

My goal is 5 lbs this week and 4 - 30 min run sessions (instead of 4 - 20s) and 3 30 lifting sessions.

Have a good week everyone and thanks for reading!

So, i'm still fat. :-)

Had a crap december, 10 days of pneumonia and getting news of my mom having being sick with very little hope of the docs being able to do anything for her made me kinda lose my way for a few weeks, but now when faced with losing my last parent i realize i REALLY need to do something about my obesity. The kids are 1 and 3 years old, and i don't wanna die while they are in their teenage years.

So. i don't know exactly where i'm at now, i guess i gained about 15 pounds during december. First step is my monday weigh in, and then take it from there.

2 feet of snow in Sweden at the moment is not making me want to go out for a jog. Guess i'll be sticking to the gym. (been there 1 time since i got my membership in June)

So, that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Doesn't matter and it doesn't make you a bad person.

What counts is how you handle it NOW.

Stand yourself up, brush yourself off and start again

On the wagon, got myself a PT in order to keep myself accountable. Got a plan for the coming 6 months and he put me on a 30 day paleo cleansing diet. Going to be fun and see how that works out.

First workout done with the new PT. It's been a LONG time since i was this tired.

I think i feel every single muscle in the body, and i know tomorrow and monday will be worse. :-)

Squash on monday, then another 90 minutes with the PT.

Also down 9 pounds since Jan 1.

Just read over the whole thread, and your work is impressive. You're human, you have setbacks, but the important thing is to keep going! Remember, even if it feels like 2 steps forward - one-step back -it's still progress. You are treating yourself and your kids with love & respect!

I lost 200 pounds since 2005.  Started riding a bike and high protein/low carb diet to jump start.  Then as the distances got longer and I lost weight, I switched to what amounts to a balanced diet.  My resting metabolism is 2000 ...I kept the intake to 1800-2500.  Probably went into starvation mode by overdoing because I was burning so many cals.  But I beat cancer in 2006, started riding a bike for a tri relay in 2007 and 2008, went full tri in 2009 and completed a half IM in 2010.  Down for Wis. IM in September. I'll race at age 60.   Adding cals now that I'm down from a 50 inch waist to a 32-33 and 13% and under body fat.  Considered "lean" according to fitness testing at the local university.

I suggest routine workouts 6 days a week at least an hour.
Balanced nutrition.  I'm adding cals now around my workouts and they are stronger and more intense.
The PT is a great investment.  I have a bike coach, a swim coach and joined tri, swim and run clubs and take lots of advice from the members.

Just stay with it.  Adopt a positive lifestyle that tresses right eating and exercise and don't worry so much day to day what the scale says.   You don't have to suffer intense mood swings based on what a needle says every 24 hours.  Weigh once a week. That is plenty.  In fact, I didn't weigh for months.  I just kept cutting new holes in the old belt.  That was enough feed back for me.

I am in the best shape of my life.  You can do this.  Hang tough. Triathlon is the most fun I've ever had with my clothes on.

Wow, what a 6 months!

Back in business (with an inflamed achilles tendon, but that will get better)

Signed up for a 21k run in May next year, that's the one and only goal for the coming 10 months.

Eat healthier, work out more and see where i land.

Welcome back Flyboy!  May the next 6 months have an upward swing to them.

I've had achilles tendon problems.  I know you are supposed to ice it and take Ibuprofen but if you hear of anything else, let me know.

I was prescribed "Voltaren" a swedish medicine i guess. :-) The active substance is Diclofenac.

the doc gave me the old "stand on a stair and do heel raises" and then emphasize the negative phase of the movement, really stretching the tendon.

She also put a piece of tape on my calf, from the knee down the calf and over the heel and down to midway on the sole of my foot.

Going to buy a bike tomorrow! :-D

Thanks flyboy, I'm trying to avoid docs and meds (too expensive here in the US) but after posting my question to you, I found information on the calf raises.  I do these on a semi regular basis but haven't thought of them as an achilles tendon exercises.  Also, as you mentioned, I read the lowering part of calf raises is really important.  It's called eccentric calf raises.

Okay then time to get serious about them there calf exercises!
