Thanks flyboy, I'm trying to avoid docs and meds (too expensive here in the US) but after posting my question to you, I found information on the calf raises.  I do these on a semi regular basis but haven't thought of them as an achilles tendon exercises.  Also, as you mentioned, I read the lowering part of calf raises is really important.  It's called eccentric calf raises.

Okay then time to get serious about them there calf exercises!

At least we get something for our high taxes.

30 minutes with the doc and then 90 minutes with a physiotherapist + tape and meds for 3 weeks came to USD 20 total. :-)

Wow! That's some scale. But, I'm a bit confused. So it won't do all the dieting and working out for you?

Nope, just like my gym membership, all my work out stuff in the garage and my inspirational IM videos it doesn't seem to increase my fitness AT ALL!

I'm slightly dissapointed...

Allright, so the 21k race in May came and went. My achilles tendons are still hurting a lot. :-(

Going to give the weightloss thing a last go, i imagine it will help recovery to not weigh 310+lbs.

Todays weight: 309lbs

Need to get rid of 80lbs

Wish me luck! :-)

I just read through the whole 6 pages of this thread, and i got to say, what i wrote in the first posts almost 2 years ago about being great at starting things but crap at following it through is VERY true.

In retrospect it such a waste of time to be at the exact same place as i was 2 years ago when i "decided" to do something about my health. :-(

I will try to have the same strategy this time around though. Working out in HR Zone 2 for 60 minutes/day and keep the calories at 1600-1800 from good clean food.

This week i cut out coke and sweets. Feels good although the caffeine withdrawal headache was bad.

Wow! 2 heart attacks, that's bad! The thing is i know i'm heading down that road myself, so absolutely! Let's make a proper effort this time around!

What kind of diet do you do BDB?
Take it easy with the running, if it hurts, stop, and walk instead or do something else with lower impact.

My plan is to work out 60 min/day in Heart rate Zone 2, (131-151 bpm for me) and restrict calories to 1600-1800Kcal/day from good clean food.

No candy and i will stop drinking 2-3 liters of coke each day.

Just the coke is 430Kcal/liter...

Let us know how the weigh-in went.

First week gone, no sodas and no candy. minus 2.3lbs.

This week i'll start the working out. Some biking if the weather stays nice and some crosstrainer.

Aiming for 300 minutes of exercise this week and a good clean diet. 1800KCal/Day.

Lowest i've been the last year is 291.1lbs Let's see if i can get back to that as a first goal.

Good start getting rid of soda. I have heard that a 1-2 lb drop per week is really good that's what I shoot for every week . Good job now let's keep it going.

Each season I'm disappointed with my training consistency, but I am better than I would be with no workouts done.
I'd encourage you to try a high protein/low carb diet. I went from a women's xl to a medium - look great in clothes (no the flabby skin doesn't go away) and running is easier.
I'm muscular and my body loves a high protein diet. I too was pretty out of control around food until I just stopped the carbs. Lost weight with 35gms/day, rest split between protein and fat. Went from 165 to 131.
It is like being an alcoholic. I can't have just a little candy, I will do anything for more. Pasta, bread, rice, potatoes just make me hungry for more. I consider myself abstinent.
My carbs come from fruit (apples, berries, grapefruits), veggies, beans, occasional plain oatmeal with splenda, slice of ezekiel bread, or sweet potato.

I avoid apple sauce, juices - carbs that lead to a quick insulin spike. I've gone up to 141 and have been there for about 6 months now.

Please consider trying the diet. It's not about will power, if you set your body up to crave sugar you will eat sugar. The will power comes in when you don't eat the first bite. Your cravings will end within a week and then it's not so hard. I always have an atkins bar, an apple, cheese stick, almonds, low carb greek yogurt, hard boiled egg etc in a bag whenever I leave the house.

Don't want to sound corny, but every day is an opportunity to make good decisions.

I am having the same problem. I have done triathlons for years but getting older I have stopped doing them and have sprouted to 325lbs. I really need to get a handle on this. Not good for marriage either. I signed up for a olympic triathlon this August but time just keeps ticking and having a hard time getting out! I am more tired, lazy then anytime before. Getting old SUCKS! Turning 49 years old on Tuesday and going to try to get back on the wagon.
