Subject: Trek Speed Concept 7 Photos?
Does anyone have a photograph or two of the Black/Charcoal Speed Concept 7.0? I have ordered one but the picture on the Trek sight is not very clear. I emailed Trek, but they said that the only picture available is the one on the Trek site.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your replay Don,

Yes this is the only picture I can find which is not all that great.  I was looking for some better resolution pics with better lighting.  Different angles would be great also.

As you can see, I am pretty excited about getting the new bike and can't wait to look at it.

Thanks again

It looks like a fighter plane.

I've been emailing all the LBS's  in Houston and they are telling me they will be getting in some 7.2 the Week of 10/18 and 7.0 the week of 11/20.  The 7.0 has the new SRAM components on them and the 7.2 has the SRAM Rival's.  I really want to try one and see how it fits.  It sucks being as impatient as I am Smile

Let me know if you heard anything different then this about availability dates?

Thanks Andrew, it looks like the 9 series has more black than silver and the 7 series has more silver than black.  Your right though, it looks like some kind of stealth flying machine.

I love my speed concept. Have had mine for almost 2 months, feels like cheating riding this bike. Mine is all black and after IM I am having some custom paint done on it, nothing crazy just the words Patience and Persistence my motto!
Enjoy your new ride.

Thank you, and no i do not hang that off my car haha. it just seemed like the best place to take the first picture instead of leaning it up against something. This baby gets the red carpet every night. inside resting on my fluid trainer with pads to not hurt the skewers and i take it out every day from that spot and put it back. the rack is just on my car for my other bikes haha.

Does anyone know if the Draft box is ITU legal? i hear so many different things. I am going to the world championships and i want to take it off before i leave if its not legal. anyone know?

the box is not UCI legal...mean actual time trail....you should be fine for traithlons though as they don't abide by same rule.  maybe someone can back me up on this maybe i am wrong but i am pretty sure that is it as i heard members on ST talk about it.

the box makes the bike more aero just an fyi.

Thanks Trix! Yea its an amazing bike and I know anyone who rides this bike will agree. The look, the ride, and the performance is honestly second to none. I love it!

As far as the draft box goes i know its function but thats what made me wonder if it was legal because I know the UCI rules are different but ITU sometimes uses the same rules, but im glad to hear its legal. i appreciate the feedback......next stop.....BETTER WHEELS!! haha

I'm thinking about the 7, between the 7.0 and 7.2. What's the real difference between Apex and Rival on a tribike?

I emailed that very question along with several  other questions to SRAM recently and the dealer service department sent me the following reply:

4. Most of the technology in Apex is identical to the higher end groups, and the cost reduction compared to Rival comes from elimination of carbon and, in most cases, using paint instead of anodizing.  Shifter internals are actually identical between Apex, Rival and Force, rear derailleur pulleys are still sealed bearings, etc. The Apex brake calipers actually have a centering screw that's not present on Rival, so there are some improvements to the group compared to Rival. Almost all the the differences are in finish quality, not design.

Pretty interesting stuff.

Good stuff thanks for sharing!  Based on this the  7.0 keeps looking better and better.  I am going to an LBS to try out a 9.5 tomorrow.  The geometry of the frames is all the same so I really want to see how it fits. Let you know how it goes!

Awesome, thanks. Sounds like, as long as it fits, I'll be on a 7.0.

Andrew,

I was looking at your sweet bike again and noticed the speed box appears to be about 1" or 2" lower than the top tube of the frame.  In other pictures of the Trek SC that I have seen, the top of the box is perpendicular to the top tube?

Skippy you just made my day!!!!!! As soon as they release those you are looking at the proud owner of at least a firecrest 808 rear maybe a front too but if not im going with the firecrest 404 in front! thank you!!!

MKAH

My best explanation for you is that i believe Treks specs are based off of a 54CM bike and my bike is an XL60cm bike. So i would assume the geometry of the bike does somewhat effect where the draft box placement is. The only mount holes on the frame is where the box on my bike is. If someone does know something about this and i am speaking wrong please correct me but i believe that is why.

I'll bet your exactly right.  Keeping the space between the rear tire and the bottom of the speed box is probably the main focus and where the top of the box ends up is really academic.  In your case, the top tube is just higher than most contributing to my observation.  Thanks for your reply, it make sense now.
